November 2020
Working together to raise awareness
Rotherham Councils Neighbourhood team have been out and about around Rotherham promoting Covid-19 safety measures and giving advice on how people can help to protect themselves. Community Champion, Caroline Bolton, provided a warm welcome to the team, who hosted a stall at Morrisons Catcliffe Branch. They were joined by PCSO’s from South Yorkshire Police and Rotherfed officers who engaged with shoppers, handed out leaflets and gave free hand sanitiser and face masks to over 200 people.
We would like to thank all the residents that we spoke to and encourage everyone in Rotherham to stay safe and carry on following the latest Government advice.

 Reduce the Risk
National lockdown measures come into effect at 12.01am on Thursday 5 November. Until then Rotherham and other areas in South Yorkshire are in the Very High local Covid alert level. This means the following restrictions are in effect:
- You must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless they are part of your household or support bubble. This includes private homes and indoors in hospitality venues, such as pubs.
- You can meet in groups no larger than six in public parks and at beaches, providing you remain socially distanced. However, you must not meet with people outside of your household or support bubble in a private garden.
- Pubs and bars will be closed unless they are serving 'substantial' meals. You will only be served alcohol whilst eating.
- Office workers who can work from home should do so.
- It is advised to avoid travel where possible, in or out of the region, except for essential journeys such as school, college and work.
- The following restrictions on premises are also in place in South Yorkshire:
- Soft play centres, betting shops, casinos and amusement arcades are to close.
- leisure centres and gyms can remain open ut classes are not to take place.
Further information and guidance about Covid-19 can be found on the Council's website

What are your Bonfire Night plans?
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have joined forces with South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust again this year to launch Operation Dark Nights.
This year due to Covid-19 all community firework events have been cancelled. Therefore we would like people to take extra care and recommend the following;
Ideally NOT have a garden bonfire but, if you must, place it away from houses, sheds and trees and never use petrol to get it going
Be extremely careful with fireworks - make sure you are following manufacturer instructions and only buying genuine products
Follow the current rules around social distancing when it comes to bonfire parties and firework displays
Speak to your children and ensure they are not playing with fire and/or fireworks - bad burn injuries will live with them forever
Help us, help you!

Festival of Angels
Can you help us knit angels for this year’s festival of angels? Last year we were able to give away over 200 knitted angels as gifts to visitors to Rotherham Minster, we would love to be able to do so again!
To do this, we are getting the knitting army organised so please let us know if you can help. You can come to the Minster or we can bring you wool in a COVID secure way! The pattern you need can be downloaded below
(or we can bring you a safely printed copy) and you are free to create your angel using any colour, wool and additional adornments you wish!
