Rotherham Federation (RotherFed) have put in place dedicated support to help tenants who have ideas for council projects that would help make council estates cleaner, greener and safer.
If you have an idea that you think will fall into one of those categories please get in touch with Rob Gooding via Facebook, email or phone.(Robert.gooding@rotherfed.org; 07538 625150). Rob will be happy to talk about your ideas and how to take them forward.
Discarded nitrous oxide containers (pictured) are now a regular site across much of Rotherham. This potentially dangerous gas has some medical uses, for example by dentists to sedate patients, but has been increasingly misused by young people as a recreational drug.
Young people often misunderstand or ignore the risks associated with inhaling nitrous oxide, and not just the short term risks such as vomiting, wheezing and allergic reaction, but the long term ones too. These include nerve damage due to vitamin B12 deficiency and the inability to properly form white blood cells.
If you notice areas where cylinders are frequently dumped, indicating anti-social gatherings, then do make your local councillors aware so they can discuss it in their regular meetings with the police.
Help shine a light on Rotherham’s voluntary and community sector
Working with Rotherham Together Partnership, Voluntary Action Rotherham (VAR) want to produce short videos to help showcase the diverse and immensely important support our voluntary groups achieve, explaining the positive difference they make to people’s lives and communities.
VAR would like to hear from you if you need help with:
A re-decoration project – decorating a room or building
An environmental project like a litter pick or a clean up
A fundraising project – could you use some help with raising some money?
An awareness raising campaign
VAR would really like to help you to get on back on your feet after the lockdown and will be working with a number of partner agencies including Rotherham Council, local colleges and private firms again this year.
We hope that you have enjoyed this update. We'd love to hear back from you if you have any comments or questions. Let us know too if there are any items of community news you'd like us to be aware of. We can't promise to include everything, but we'll do our best. Email us at neighbourhoods@rotherham.gov.uk
