July 2020
Welcome to our July edition
This month you can read about some of the community groups and organisations that are working hard to provide valuable services within your area.
The Centre, Hot Food Project
At the beginning of the lockdown trustees and staff at The Centre in Brinsworth decided they wanted to do something to help their local community, so they set up 'The Hot Food Project'.
Sue Widdowson, The Centre Manager said "We obtained funding from South Yorkshire's Community Foundation, Groundworks, Tesco bags of help, Neighbourly, KH Plant and crowd funding as well as cash donations from local people.
"The project was launched in early May and provides a two-course hot meal for local residents, delivered to their doorstep free of charge. Many of these people are self-isolating and are vulnerable in the current situation. The service not only provides them with a healthy meal, but it provides a friendly face, which can help with the loneliness felt by some of these residents.
"We have been inundated with requests, we delivered 30 hot meals in the first day and 12 weeks on this has now increased to 43 per day.
"We will need the continued support of volunteers to help with the delivery of meals and welcome new volunteers so that we can look to increase the amount of meals we could provide per day and the frequency."
Anyone who would like to volunteer can contact Sue Widdowson on 01709 916890 (option 2).

 Help Keep Rotherham Open
With national lockdown measures beginning to ease, Rotherham residents are being reminded that the additional freedoms we get back come with additional responsibility. It’s still essential that everyone continues to play their part - if we don’t, more restrictions will need to return.
To Help Keep Rotherham Open it's more important than ever that:
Please share this message with your friends and family. Feel free to download and share the Help Keep Rotherham Open graphic on your social media accounts, using the #HelpKeepRotherhamOpen hashtag, and follow the Council on Twitter and Facebook too for further updates.

Catcliffe Memorial Hall
It was during one of the heavy rainstorms in January this year when the memorial hall clock was blown down. Catcliffe Parish Council are pleased to announce it has finally been put back in its rightful place on the front of the building.
The Parish Hall re-opened for bookings from the 4 July, under the new strict Covid-19 guidelines. Hand sanitising stations have been installed at each entrance and in the main hall and meeting rooms. Signs have been placed around the hall to remind users to keep a safe distance, all people who hire the building will be asked to bring their own cutlery and cooking utensils.
Sarah Youngman, Clerk to Catclife Parish Council said "We have been working hard to put together a risk assessment to keep hirers as safe as possible. All measures will be in place until we receive further guidance and anyone hiring the hall will be provided with a copy of the document."
Unfortunately, sporting or physical fitness cannot be held at the present time

Catcliffe Bowling Green
The maintenance of the bowling green has carried on during lockdown, and the green is ready to welcome members back for a long-awaited game of bowls.
Since it appears that no league matches will be taking place this year, it gives members the opportunity to come down to the club and enjoy the outdoor space and lovely weather at any time of day, seven days a week.
Members will be required to book a time slot and we are now offering more than one game on the green at a time, in line with government and BCGBA regulations for Phase 2. There are plenty of slots available for people to come along and enjoy the outdoor space and lovely weather.

New Dog Bins
Brinsworth Parish Council have been working in partnership with Rotherham Council to site three new dog bins in Brinsworth.
The bins have been funded by Brinsworth and Catciffe Ward Councillors through their Ward budget.
They have an in-built bag dispenser which provides free dog poo bags for dog owners to use. They will be maintained and emptied by Brinsworth Parish Council. A local company, P.F. Fencing and Driveway specialist,s were asked to install the bins.
Look out for them on your next walk at the following locations:
- The grassed area at the corner of Godric Drive and Normanville Avenue
- The junction of Brinsworth Road, Derwent Crescent and Broadway
- Whitehill Lane close to the junction of Rothbury Way
