Hoober neighbourhood update

Active Dearne launches in Hoober ward Active Dearne is a programme funded by Sport England, Doncaster Council and Rotherham Council to get adults and families active across the Dearne Valley. The programme is designed by the community for the community. In Rotherham we have previously worked in Swinton, and have recently moved into Wath and Hoober. Active Dearne works across three main priorities, these are: Recruitment of a paid Community Champion per area Commissioning of local community groups and sports clubs Working with businesses to engage them in sport and physical activity In Swinton working with local community groups we have developed a number of successful programmes including, a regular walking/history group, a weekly walking football group and a regular yoga group based in the library. From Cortonwood with love Vulnerable residents in Brampton and beyond are receiving hot dinners, essential food boxes, and hygiene parcels from Cortonwood Comeback Centre. Shelley, volunteer coordinator, said: “We’re here to help make things that little bit easier for people. Our volunteers, residents, and local businesses have all pulled together to help those who need it the most. There’s nothing more rewarding that doing the hot dinner deliveries and seeing the smiles on people’s faces, we might be the only people they’ve seen all day. We’ve mastered the art of a quick chat from two-meters away!” This article first appeared in Rotherham Council's Home Matters magazine (2.57MB) for council tenants.

Off road bikes and anti-social behaviour The Council has received a number of complaints about off-road bikers causing nuisance in Hoober ward. It is illegal to ride any motorbike in public open spaces such as parks, play areas and on pavements. If this is affecting you, or you have information you can share, call your local police on 101. Holy Trinity Wentworth shows its appreciation

Volunteers have worked on the Holy Trinity Church in Wentworth to light up the church in NHS 'blue', plus other colors, to show their appreciation, not only the NHS, but to all the other organisations who are keeping everyone safe.

Ward priorities and funding

With the current lockdown starting to ease there will no doubt be community groups with some future project in mind. Hoober Ward Councillors now have funding available which they would like to give you the opportunity to apply for.

Projects need to fit within the ward priorities listed below. You can bid up to £999, however smaller requests are more likely to be successful. You can also ask individual ward councillors for support from their Community Leadership Fund.

• Improve the local environment
• Tackle social isolation and loneliness
• Increase participation in the community
• Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour
• Explore opportunities to enhance facilities and activities for young people and families within the Hoober Ward
