March 2020
Welcome to the March edition of the Brinsworth and Catcliffe Ward e-bulletin
New shelter for Catcliffe Bowling Club
Catcliffe bowling club received £2000 Community Chest Grant last year to carry out improvement works at the bowling green in Catcliffe. They have been hard at work and the new shelter is now finished.
Daren Smith, Funds Organiser said, ‘We really appreciate the funding from the Ward Budget, it has enabled us to build a new shelter for the club. It has made a big difference to the look of the club and will hopefully be used in many years to come. We are hoping to get further work done before the season starts in April, weather permitting’

Friends of Catcliffe
The group was formed in 2013, organised by an Executive Committee and open for the general interest of the local community. They aim to bring members of Catcliffe community together and improve the local area. Their logo shows the Catcliffe Kiln, a landmark that they are very proud of and believe is a great asset to all in Catcliffe.
Louise Tideswell is the Chair of the group and explained: "Over the past couple of years, we have held various events such as a ceilidh, seniors tea party, Big Lunch, children's Christmas party and beetle drives.
"At these events we provide entertainment and refreshments and encourage members of the community to come along, get involved and have a great time. We try to raise funds through raffles and the support of local businesses and funding from our local Ward Councillors, we are always extremely grateful for everyone’s generosity.
"As a community group we have organised bulb planting and are happy to see daffodils each spring. We have organised litter picks and worked in conjunction with St Mary's Church to help clear rubbish, weeds etc from the area. This is an ongoing project for us and we encourage anyone interested to get involved, as a community we can achieve great things."

Community garden for Waverley
Over the coming year, a brand new community garden is to be developed in Waverley. A large piece of land has been donated to the project by Harworth, and funding secured through the Well Rotherham Project. Residents are working together to create a unique green space for this growing community to enjoy.
Waverley has an established gardening group, the Waverley Buds, who last year exhibited at the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show! The group is currently welcoming new members and working on design ideas.
Group member Stephanie said: "The aim is for the garden to be beautiful, something that residents can enjoy whether they are interested in actually gardening there or simply passing through. We want the garden to be a place where people can come together, meet their neighbours, swap skills and tips, get some fresh air and form new friendships. A real asset to the community!"

Well Rotherham inspirational walks and creative workshop
Well Rotherham will be running a series of community walks with Sarah Palmer, a local artist, to get inspiration from the areas which will then feed into a creative workshop. The idea is to co design some sculptures/seating for the valley with community members, then commission a local artist to produce it. People are invited to come along and join the community walks to share stories, dream up possibilities for future art works within the Rother Valley and get physically active in nature.
Whether you can join the walks or not, if you’d like to share ideas please get involved and take part in the survey.

Could you adopt a child or become a foster carer?
We have many wonderful adopters and foster carers in Rotherham, providing loving homes to some of our most vulnerable young people. However, there are lots of children still waiting to find a home that will allow them to be healthy, safe and achieve potential in life.
If you are considering adoption or becoming a foster carer, you can find out more information on the following websites: www.fosteringrotherham.com and www.adoptioninrotherham.org.uk
Have your say on the future of libraries and neighbourhood hubs
Rotherham Council is running a consultation to ask members of the public their views on the future of libraries in the borough.
During the last year, the Council has been working on its Library strategy which outlines how libraries could be run over the next five years, including the locations of the buildings, the availability of books, up-to-date computers and updating facilities to be more family friendly.
The library consultation asks residents for their views on the strategy and any other improvements they might like to see.
Read more about and take part in the consultation on Rotherham Council's draft library strategy.
