February 2020
St Mary’s Coffee Pot
Members of the St Mary’s Coffee Pot at Catcliffe were excited to accept their new gazebo. This was provided through the Councillors Community Leadership funding. The group hold a weekly coffee morning within St Mary’s Church. This is open to everyone and has a lively and vibrant atmosphere in which people can have a chat, grab a cuppa and sample the delicious cakes and savouries on offer.
The group are also part of a wider partnership made up of community groups, Parish Council, Ward Councillors and Rotherham Council officer that come together each year and organise the Nativity scene and carols at the kiln. The gazebo will be part of this event and will be used to ensure the nativity figures are protected from the elements. Alan Register, one of the group leaders said, "We are very pleased to receive this piece of equipment as it will not only protect the Nativity Scene from rain and bad weather, but we can also use it to provide a number of community events throughout the year."
Anyone interested in attending the Coffee Pot can drop-in any Tuesday morning between 10am until 12 noon at St Mary’s Church, Catcliffe.

Community Consultation Day
Catcliffe Parish Council received £29,151 from Rotherham Council in April 2019. The funds were received as part of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) imposed on Barratt Homes Ltd for the development of The Glassworks estate off Poplar Way. CIL monies can be used to support the development of the local area's infrastructure, which includes physical, social and green features such as highways, cycleways, education facilities, sports and community halls, parks and play areas.
After consulting with local residents, a decision was made to invest the funding on a project to develop the play areas in Catcliffe
At this stage the Parish Council do not have all the funds in place to replace the equipment but they are applying for further funding from Veolia Environmental Trust and FCC Community Foundation.
On the 25 January, the Parish Council held an open day to allow the public the opportunity to look at the designs and vote for their favourite choice.

The Great Ideas Grant
The Great Ideas Grant supports local people to bring their ideas to life in their neighbourhood, making it a better place to live, work and play. It offers up to £300 start-up support and free training to grassroots projects.
Your project should reach and support your local community to work towards one of the following outcomes:
- My community is a green and pleasant place to be
- My community has lots of things for people to do
- People connect with each other in my community
- Children thrive in my community
- People are healthy and active in my community
If your idea is successful, a project mentor will be on hand to support, advise and guide you along the way. Anyone who lives or works in Waverley, Catcliffe or Treeton can pitch to receive a grant. It’s only available to individual community members or informal groups, and not to constituted groups or larger organisations.

Have your say on the future of Libraries and Neighbourhood Hubs
Rotherham Council is running a consultation to ask members of the public their views on the future of libraries in the borough. During the last year, the Council has been working on its Library strategy which outlines how libraries could be run over the next five years, including the locations of the buildings, the availability of books, up-to-date computers and updating facilities to be more family friendly. The library consultation asks residents for their views on the strategy and any other improvements they might like to see.
