Catcliffe Bowling Club 

The bowling season at Catcliffe BC finished at the end of September and starts again in April. Last year was eventful year off and on the green with the club successfully securing funding from the local parish council, Rotherham Borough Council and South Yorkshire Community Foundation. The funding will enable work to be carried out on developing the area.

With the help of the South Yorkshire probation service, corner support posts were installed around the green and the surrounding area cleared of weeds and rubbish. The first shelter went up around the green in August. This has already been beneficial, protecting members and visitors from the elements.

Work has been ongoing throughout the season, replacing the old rotten boards with new ones, hidden behind astro turf material and adding rubber matting. 

Darren Smith, the group funds organiser said: "Through the winter and spring we are planning to develop further, with the addition of more shelters, tables and seating along with improvements around the perimeter.

"We are already looking forward to next year. It is a good time to take up the sport and join us here at Catcliffe. New members are more than welcome.  You can play socially, or join one of the leagues'

Andy's Man Club Rotherham

The group meets on Monday evenings at The Centre, Brinsworth, at 6.30pm. It is a peer to peer support group open to any man over the age of 18.

Jason Darbyshire, one of the group facilitators said: "We gather for a brew and a chat. It's raw and real, with laughter and sometimes tears. The hardest thing will be taking the first step into the club; we've all experienced that and felt that was the hardest part of the night. 

"Our ethos is simple - 'its good to talk'. It's like a brotherhood when you walk through the doors. I have never experienced anything like this in my 25 year career of social care. To date we have supported over 40 men, and I know the number will grow!"

Big surprise for two Catcliffe Groups

The Chapel Walk Group was visited by Joanne Davies, Community Champion for Morrisons, who delivered an array of food and goodies. 

The group has been chosen along with Merebrow Positive Activities Group to receive the goodies that would help to support the running of their weekly group.

The Chapel Walk group run weekly bingo sessions on Thursday mornings at the centre and also hold a number of outings and trips for local residents. The Merebrow Positive Activities Group run their bingo sessions on Tuesday afternoons at the Merebrow Neighbourhood Centre.

Joanne will visit in January to meet them and deliver their goodies.

Catcliffe Parish Council Tree Planting Project 

Catcliffe Parish Council has planted 50 Poplar Trees on the recreation ground on Poplar Way. The trees were funded by Harworth Estates and Rotherham Council.

The project was initiated by a resident who regularly uses the recreation ground and noticed that there were a number of trees missing following the 2007 floods. The Parish Council planted the trees with volunteers from the local community.
