Brinsworth and Catcliffe History Group
The Brinsworth and Catcliffe History Group has been meeting monthly since 2006, on the second Wednesday, at The Centre, Brinsworth Lane at 6.30 pm.
Past talks from guest speakers have included the Chapel on the Bridge, Vikings, glass making and the history of Rotherham. Future talks will be covering Jack the Ripper, Firbeck Hall and noted Brinsworth families.
The group has been involved in a number of visits and projects including several archaeological digs, looking for the Roman road in Brinsworth and Tinsley, and visits to Weston Park museum’s archive to look at the Bronze Age canoe.
The group has also visited Sheffield archives to view the court rolls dating back to the 14th Century, and met the Sheffield University PhD student transcribing them. Other visits undertaken have been to Cresswell Craggs and Blackburn Meadows power station.
Susan Kahler from the group said: "We also take part in the Rotherham Minster local heritage day held yearly in April, and also the Catcliffe Heritage Day - a very popular day for the community held in September. We would love to welcome more people to join us - they will be assured of a warm welcome, and we will make sure you have a cup of tea and a biscuit!"
