Stay well this winter
There are a number of things you can do to help keep well during the cold weather. It is important to keep warm in winter both inside and outdoors as it can help to prevent colds, flu and more serious health problems, such as heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia and depression. Heat your home to at least 18C (65F), if you can, you might prefer your living room to be slightly warmer.
At the first sign of a cough or a cold get help from your pharmacist before it gets more serious and ask about medicines you should have in stock to help get you and your family through the winter season. Make sure you pick up prescription medications before the Christmas holidays start, as many GPs and pharmacies will close over the holidays.
And always catch it, bin it, kill it and remember to wash your hands to help stop germs spreading.

Roads and gritting
The winter salting programme carried out by our highways team ensures that over 300 miles of the boroughs busiest roads, including all main bus routes, are treated with salt in advance of any forecast ice or snow.
Our 10 state-of-the-art gritters are on standby, 24 hours, 7 days a week between November and March.
In the event of severe weather, such as heavy snowfall, updates will be posted on social media. Look for the hashtag #sygrit.
