Changes to your household bin collections have begun rolling out across Rotherham and some of you will already have received your new pink-lid bin for household waste.
You’ll first receive a letter through the post, along with a new waste calendar*. The next step will be receiving a purple tag on your black bin – this means that on your next household waste collection day, your pink-lid bin will be delivered.
On your last household waste collection from your black bin, we'll put a sticker on it to let you know it's time to start using the pink-lid bin for household waste and your black bin to recycle plastics, tins and glass.
Your new pink-lid bin will be delivered on the same day (weather permitting) but not at the same time. Please keep using your old bins and containers as normal until your pink-lid bin is delivered.
When you've received your pink-lid bin, you can start using your black bin for recycling. Plastic bottles, tubs, trays, punnets and pots can all go in your black bin, along with tins, cans and glass bottles/jars.
Plastics we can’t accept in the black bin for recycling include plastic bags and plastic film (e.g. bread bags, film from the top of ready meal trays etc.) and plastic-coated cartons (like Tetrapak containers and disposable coffee cups).
Many supermarkets have plastic bag recycling points and Rotherham has Tetrapak recycling facilities at Forge Island, ASDA (Dalton), Tesco (Dinnington), Kiveton Park Co-op (Chapel Way) and Wath Library Car Park.
More information about what can and can’t go in your black bin can be found on our website: https://bit.ly/2NgCCfi
