Dear community member
I am writing to you with the latest updates on the new and existing primary schools in the Dargavel area.
Throughout this project we have aimed to keep the local community directly updated. This is the first update of 2025, and there has been lots happening behind the scenes to keep you updated on.

New school construction update
The project to build a new primary school in Dargavel has reached a couple of key milestones in the past week.
First, our contractors have now started civil engineering works on the site, and these will run until July, so you may see some activity on site between now and then. This work will help prepare the land for the next phase of the construction project starting later this year.
Secondly, planning approval has now been given for the construction of the school itself, by councillors on the Planning Board when they met last week.
BAE are well under way with construction of the new western link road, which will connect Arrochar Drive with the north end of Craigton Drive and will form the main route into the new school. The road is due to be finished before the end of the year.
The new school remains on track to be open for August 2027. When built it will include a full-size sports pitch and facilities available for the whole community.

Help us name the new school
We are excited to have reached the stage where we can soon give the school an official name – and there's still time for you to help us choose it.
Pupils at Dargavel Primary and Bishopton Primary picked some suitable name options, and from there a shortlist of three was chosen, in line with our School Naming Policy.
We are now asking the community to vote for their favourite. If you haven't already done so, you can still vote via the below link up until Sunday 31 March.
Dargavel Primary School updates
We are continuing to work on some upgrades in and around the existing Dargavel Primary School.
This will see the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) upgraded from the current surface to 3G astroturf. Once complete this will be available for hire for the wider community. This work will be done over the summer months and is being planned to minimise any disruption to the school.
We are also developing plans to create a drop-off area on the site known as C1 (the land to next to the current primary school). The aim is to ease some of the issues with parking at pick-up and drop-off, although we expect the new link road will also help do this, once open.
I hope this update has been useful. As always, if you have any other questions, you can reach us via dargavelcs@renfrewshire.gov.uk
Kind regards
Gerard McLaughlin Head of Education Renfrewshire Council
