New Dargavel primary school - formal consultation update
Dear Dargavel community member
I wanted to follow up on my email last week around the proposed new primary school planned for Dargavel.
I can now confirm councillors on the Education and Children’s Services Policy Board met yesterday afternoon and have voted to approve the recommendations set out by officers.
This means the new school will be built on the proposed site (‘Site E1’) - at the north end of Craigton Drive - and the proposed catchment areas will come into place when it opens.
Other recommendations agreed by councillors include that officers will:
- ensure ongoing community engagement during the design and planning of the new school
- produce an integrated traffic and active travel plan as part of that
- continue work to scope out a new drop-off and pick-up area on spare land next to the current Dargavel Primary School
- engage with the community around future secondary school provision.
I want to thank again the 800-plus people who took part in the formal consultation around the new school earlier this year.
We appreciate the consultation findings demonstrated a range of views around the location, and the recommendations above are designed to ensure the key issues raised are considered fully as we move forward.

We will now move forward with the design and planning of the new school, and ongoing engagement with the community will be crucial to that. We will continue to keep you updated on progress.
