Entitlement start date change

The Council has recently changed its early learning and childcare entitlement start dates for three year olds, which will come into effect from August 2024.

This change brings Renfrewshire in line with national guidance from Scottish Government and neighbouring councils as well as aligning with Renfrewshire’s start dates for eligible two-year-olds. It was approved at the Education and Children’s Services Policy Board held this month.

From August 2024, children will start at council nursery, approved nursery or a childminder from the beginning of term depending on the month they turn three.

You may have been told of a start date for your child when you applied to your chosen nursery or childminder. This date may now be different due to the changes to the entitlement start dates for three year olds.

We hope that by making you aware of this information, it will give you enough time to plan ahead.

Your child’s nursery or childminder will issue letters confirming your child’s placement and when they will start their entitlement. When you receive your letter will depend on when you applied. The first letters will be issued in April.

You may be able to buy hours (wraparound care) for your child at your chosen nursery or childminder in advance of their entitlement start date. Please talk to your nursery or childminder after you have received your placement confirmation letter.

Children who meet priority 1 or 2 of our admissions policy may start earlier than the dates listed in the table above. The exact date will be agreed with you.
