New Dargavel primary school update
Dear parent/carer
I would like to introduce myself to you as the new Director of Children’s Services for Renfrewshire Council. I look forward to working with you over the coming years.
As you know, the council is working on plans for a new primary school to be built in the Dargavel area, and I wanted to update you on the latest developments with that.
We have identified a proposed site for the new school – on land to the north of Craigton Drive.
The next step is for us to run a formal consultation to capture the views of the community on the following:
- Whether to build the new primary school on the proposed site mentioned above
- Revised catchment areas for the new school and the existing Dargavel Primary
Members of the council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board will meet next Thursday (18 January) and will be asked to give approval for us to start this consultation.
If approved, the consultation would start by Monday 29 January and run for around two months. A copy of the consultation document with full details of the proposal will be shared with all relevant groups, and a public meeting would be held in February.
At the same policy board meeting next week, councillors will also be asked to consider two other reports related to school provision in the Dargavel/Bishopton/Erskine area. These will cover:
- An updated set of long-term roll projections for Dargavel Primary and Park Mains High School, compiled by a specialist data company, which look ahead 15 years, to 2038, to help with our long-term planning. These suggest demand will peak around 2033/34, and start to fall after that
- Some of the options through which we could increase primary school capacity in the Dargavel area in future, should demand for places hit a higher peak than expected
