Dargavel education update
Dear parent or carer,
I am writing to update you on the progress made towards a new additional primary school in Dargavel and increasing the capacity at Park Mains High School.
This update includes space planning for the new primary school, site investigations on the preferred site, and installing a temporary classroom block at Park Mains High School.
Space planning for a new primary school
Our space planning specialists, Space Zero, have now completed their surveys with Dargavel Primary School parents and carers and the wider community on the new primary school.
Parents and carers were asked for their views on the high-quality learning environment within the new school, and the wider community were asked about how the school could be used as a valuable community space out of school hours.
More than 600 responses have been received so far and Space Zero have also visited Dargavel Primary School with council officers to assess how the current building operates. This insight will inform the design process for the new school.

Site investigations of preferred site
Following agreement with BAE Systems, the council is now able to access the preferred site to conduct site investigations on the land. This includes testing the land to ensure it meets the required standards for building a school.
A full report on these investigations is expected to be completed in December and we will keep you updated.
Park Mains High School classroom block
We will shortly be moving a unit with space for five classrooms to the grounds of Park Mains High School. This will be fitted with all the necessary equipment to be used as learning spaces on a temporary basis from August 2024.
