Strike action—1 November 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to inform you that due to strike action by Unison non-teaching staff many of our schools and nurseries will be closed on Wednesday 1 November.

Secondary Schools

Secondary schools will be closed for S1–S3 pupils.

We are hoping to be able to open secondary schools for S4–S6 pupils on the strike day, however, we are still working through arrangements with our teams. Any school opening will be contingent on the necessary health and safety requirements being met. As soon as we can confirm the arrangements, we will let you know.

Primary Schools

All primary schools will be closed.

Additional Support Needs Schools

Mary Russell and Riverbrae schools will be closed.

Nursery, early learning and childcare

All Council-run nursery classes based in a primary school will be closed as well as Foxlea, Moorpark and Glenfield ELC Centres.

Nurseries centres that are standalone will be open and children will receive a packed lunch. The following nurseries will be open. If your child’s nursery is not listed below, it will be closed on the strike day.

  • Dargavel ELCC
  • Douglas Street ELCC
  • Ferguslie ELCC
  • Glenburn ELCC
  • Glendee ELCC
  • Hillview ELCC
  • Hugh Smiley ELCC
  • Kirklandneuk ELCC
  • Lochfield ELCC
  • Paisley ELCC
  • Spateston ELCC
  • West Johnstone ELCC.

Funded private nurseries who operate their services in one of our schools will be unable to open on the strike day. They may wish to open using an alternative premise. Those services will confirm whether they can open or not with their parents and carers.

Other private nurseries and childminders are unaffected by the strike.

Learning on the strike day

Schools will contact you directly with any school specific information.

Out-of-school care

Out-of-school care will also be unable to operate in any school building.

Other information

If you normally receive a free school meals payment during holiday periods, you will also receive a payment for the strike day. This will be made as part of the December holiday payment.

All schools and nurseries will be open on Thursday 2 November as normal.

If there are any changes, we will keep you updated.

Yours sincerely,

Julie Calder

Head of Education and Interim Chief Education Officer
