School and nursery strike action
Dear Parent/Carer
I am writing to inform you that due to strike action, as balloted by trade unions Unison and GMB, all schools and most nurseries in Renfrewshire will be closed on the following days:
- Tuesday 26 September
- Wednesday 27 September
- Thursday 28 September.
While the strike does not involve teachers, it does involve staff who are vital to the safe and effective operation of a school or nursery, including support staff and catering, cleaning and janitorial staff.
The nurseries that will be closed are all Council-run nursery classes based in primary schools, and Foxlea, Moorpark and Glenfield ELC Centres.
The following standalone nurseries will operate as normal. If your child’s nursery is not listed below, it will be closed on strike days.

- Glenburn ELCC
- Glendee ELCC
- Hillview ELCC
- Hugh Smiley ELCC
- Kirklandneuk ELCC
- Lochfield ELCC
- Paisley ELCC
- Spateston ELCC
- West Johnstone ELCC.
Funded private nurseries and childminders are unaffected.
School work for children and young people to complete at home on strike days will be arranged by schools. Your child’s school will be in touch with more details in due course.
All schools and nurseries will be open on Friday 29 September as normal.
While the Council has been formally notified by trade unions of their intention to strike, there is also the possibility that through ongoing negotiations the strike may not take place. We will update you if the position changes.
