Welcome back to school

Dear parent or carer,

As we look forward to a new school year, I wanted to update you on work that has taken place over the summer at Dargavel Primary.

I know Mr Carlton and his team are looking forward to welcoming your child/children into school for the new term on Wednesday. I’d like to wish you and your family all the very best for the year ahead.

Update on works over summer

As you are aware, work took place on the school site over the summer to install three new modular buildings, containing six new classrooms in total. These are now in place and are ready for the start of term as planned.

The new classrooms provide the school with additional capacity for up to 198 pupils. Each building has its own toilet facilities and cloakroom, and secure access.

The head teacher and his team will monitor how the new set-up is working and will make any changes if required. My thanks go to all the school staff who went above and beyond by choosing to come in over the summer holiday to help get the new classrooms ready for the children.

You will remember pupils last term helped create artwork to decorate the new classrooms. This is being finalised and we are sure the pupils will enjoy seeing their work on display.

We had planned to make some improvements to the acoustics in the main school building over the summer by installing partitions between the P3 double classroom base and partitioning off two of the first-floor bases.

It wasn’t possible for this to be done before the start of the new term, so to minimise any disruption, the work has now been rescheduled for the October school break. We apologise for this delay.

To improve the safety of pupils at drop-off and pick-up times, a no-parking zone, marked by yellow zig-zag lines, has been introduced directly outside the school entrance on Arrochar Drive similar to that in place at other local schools and schools across Scotland.

We would ask any parents and carers who are dropping their children off by car to do so further up the street. We have added increased bike and scooter parking at the school and would encourage the use of this—or for children to walk to school—where possible.

Updates for wider Dargavel community

We have been updating you on education in Dargavel through these regular messages, which come through the school’s existing mailing list.

We know there are other families in Dargavel who don’t have children at primary school yet, but who will have an interest in the issue.

We have now created a new opt-in email newsletter which anyone can sign up to on our website. We would appreciate your help to spread the word by sharing the newsletter link with your neighbours.

Current Dargavel Primary parents and carers don’t need to sign up (unless you want to) as we will continue to update you directly and the content of the new email newsletter will be similar to the updates we will send you.

If you have any queries in the meantime, please contact us at our dedicated email address: dargavelcs@renfrewshire.gov.uk

Kind regards
