If you live in Redbridge, then get ready for a fun packed summer! We’re encouraging residents to celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in Europe (VE) Day by hosting street parties during the Bank Holiday weekend between Saturday 3 - Monday 5, May. This initiative aims to bring neighbours together, strengthen community bonds, and commemorate the historic occasion.
During the King's coronation 100 street parties were held in Redbridge, highlighting the area's strong community spirit, and we hope we can make VE Day as much fun this year! The council will assist by closing off party approved roads, providing signage and cones, and offering VE Day kits with bunting and flags.
To host a street party, please submit an application form by 5pm, Friday 4 April. For more details, please visit the council's website
There is still time to join Keep Britain Tidy in celebrating the 10th Great British Spring Clean, until 6 April 2025.
Last year, Leo, Max and Victor unanimously decided to litter pick in Redbridge for their Duke of Edinburgh award as they wanted to clean up their community and respect the environment we live in.
They collected their litter picking equipment from their local library and litter picked for a couple of hours each week. One afternoon they collected 243 cigarette butts! Common items littered are disposable vapes and plastic bottles, but they have also picked up a shower caddy and an onion!
Well done to our litter picking hereos! Send us your litter picking story and photos here.
Did you know you can borrow litter pickers from the Our Streets team, for free? Apply here!
Redbridge Council are working to keep our borough safe and enjoyable, and to ensure our night-time economy is prosperous for businesses, and happy and safe for local people.
A big part of this work involves creating a Statement of Licensing policy. This policy outlines how the Council manages licences for alcohol sales, the performance of live music, the playing of recorded music, late-night refreshments, and other related activities. It also sets out what the Council expects from licence holders.
Every five years, the Council must review, update, and republish its Statement of Licensing Policy. The current policy will be republished in November 2025. The policy has been updated to reflect current needs in Redbridge and changes affecting the licensed economy.
Join Thames21 in helping develop 'The Roding Rises'- a multi-year National Lottery Heritage Funded project aiming to kick start the revitalisation of the River Roding.
The River Roding is London’s third longest river and flows through 3 East London Boroughs, which Thames21 looks to reconnect with nature through Habitat Restoration, Citizen Science and Connecting Communities.
They need your thoughts on the River Roding and how it could be improved for surrounding communities. Share your views by completing this survey (takes about 5 minutes).
Last month, the Our Streets team joined The East London Waste Authority (ELWA), The London Fire Brigade and ‘The Volt Twins’ in celebrating National Battery Day in the Exchange Mall in Ilford.
Over 150 residents spun the wheel of fortune for a chance to win a host of goodies all sponsored by the East London Waste Authority, including 10 battery rechargers and all visitors learnt where to recycle batteries safely in Redbridge.
Rechargeable batteries can last for 10 years, saving disposable battery waste. Batteries can be hidden in toys, vapes, kitchen items and phones.
You might not know that the humble battery was the cause of over 1200 fires in waste collection vehicles or processing facilities in the UK last year. Locally, our own facilities and collection vehicles have been affected by battery fires costing money and causing service delays.
Local supermarkets, libraries, retail stores, schools, and Recycling Centres offer safe ways for residents to dispose of batteries.
A fruit and vegetable shop in the borough that repeatedly left its rubbish piled up at the front of the store has been successfully prosecuted by Redbridge Council. The store landed on the council’s radar after the London Fire Brigade flagged concerns over how the shop was storing its commercial waste. You can read the full story online.
We hate fly-tippers as much as you so let’s work together to catch the culprits. Head to our latest edition of Redbridge Wall of Shame and let us know if you recognise any of the offenders caught on camera making a mess in our borough.
