As part of the Council's ongoing effort to address climate change, we are making significant improvements in the Housing Service area. We are increasing insulation to make our existing homes more energy efficient. Plus, our Affordable Homes schemes on council owned housing sites are built to high energy efficiencies standards, reducing environmental impact and providing comfortable living spaces.
The Council has started to develop an ambitious Climate Change Strategy for Redbridge which will replace the existing Climate Change Action Plan which was launched on July 2021.

Trees and greenery are critical to reducing carbon emissions as every tree that is planted helps to take out carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and also contributes to soil fertility. (Woodland Trust information)
We are fortunate to have a lot of green areas and trees on our housing owned sites. Over time, we have lost nearly 700 trees to disease, damage and for safety reasons. Removing a tree is never an easy decision and we are committed to replacing these. Since 2003 we have planted 214 trees on our housing sites. In addition new trees are planted as part of housing development works. We continually look for locations across our estates to plant trees and work with charities and external providers to obtain funding for this.
Further information on our approach to tree planting can be viewed below:

It is important that we all play our part in limiting global warming and climate change.
There are a number of easy ways you can help do your bit at home
Reducing car use and turning off your engine when stationary, using public transport or walking and cycling.
Reduce energy use by turning down our thermostat and using low energy light bulbs.
Using reusable Bags for Life or simply reuse existing plastic bags from home when you go shopping.
Recycle soft plastics including pet wrappers, crisp packets and unwanted plastic bags at recycling points usually found at large local supermarkets.
Recycle used batteries remembering to do so correctly to stop batteries and vapes becoming a fire risk. If old old batteries are disposed of in household waste bins and recycling boxes this can cause fires at waste and recycling plants across the UK.

We're making important changes on how you bid on properties, If you are currently registered on our housing register you WILL need to re-register on the new system before 31st May 2025 to continue to bid on properties.
You can continue to bid for homes on the ELLC website. But, if you do not register by 31st May, you will not be able to bid for social housing in Redbridge which may impact your waiting time.
If you want to bid on social housing between now and 1 June 2025 you will need to register on our existing Waiting List (ELLC) and on the new Housing Register (Redbridge Homes 4 U).
Your effective date and band on the current housing register will stay the same on the new system to ensure existing priority is maintained.
We've created videos and FAQs to help you with registration and to answer your questions. You can find them on Lets Talk Redbridge from Monday 31st March.

We have successfully completed 103 homes at Little Gearies and 8 homes at Budoch court. These homes were handed over earlier this year and we have welcomed in the new residents.
Hills, the contractor for Little Gearies hosted a completion event in February. Senior members of staff and cabinet attended this event along with some of our new residents to celebrate the event and plant a young sapling in commemoration of the development.
We look forward to the completion of 159 new homes at Loxford Lane and 40 at Suffolk Court in Autumn 2025.

We are always looking to improve our housing services and we want you to be part of this exciting journey. Co-creation is a collaborative process where residents are involved in service improvement projects from start to finish.
Our first co-creation project has focused on improving the way we handle anti-social behaviour as a landlord, and we are currently embedding recommendations into our policies and procedures. If you are interested in taking part in future projects, please contact our Co-Creation Officer, Lorna Biddell, on lorna.biddell@redbridge.gov.uk or 0208 708 2532.
