Would you like to help us make Redbridge a safer borough for all?
We’d love to hear from you. Please share your experiences and views on safety and crime with us by Monday 27 February. Participating in the survey will only take you just over five minutes.
Following the devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria, we have launched a Just Giving appeal to help provide support to the millions of people affected by one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent memory.
Tens of thousands of people have been reported injured across Turkiye and Syria, with many more trapped in the rubble following the terrifying collapse of infrastructure and almost 8,000 buildings. Ongoing rescue operations are taking place in a desperate bid to save lives.
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said, “We have all been shaken by the pictures, videos and stories we have seen since the earthquake last week. More than 30,000 people have lost their lives, and 17 million people are in urgent need of shelter, food, and medication.
"I am supporting Islamic Relief, part of the Disaster Emergency Committee currently on the ground in Turkiye, please join me, and together we can help the people of Syria and Turkiye at their time of greatest need.”
Are you interested in tackling climate change in Redbridge? If you are, why not become part of our Climate Forum, where you can meet and share ideas with others in the network to identify ways to work together to make the borough greener and cleaner.
The next Climate forum is Tuesday 28 February, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, at Redbridge Town Hall. It will feature an update on Redbridge’s Climate Change Action Plan from the Cabinet Member for Environment and Civic Pride, Cllr Jo Blackman, along with opportunities to network with eco-minded groups and individuals and learn about local green projects.
Special guest Jose Baladron, from charity TRAID, will also be speaking about the environmental impact of clothing waste and a new partnership project with Redbridge.
The forum is free to attend, and we are always looking for new members.
Local communities are invited to turn their street into a hive of fun and activity in time for The King’s Coronation through Redbridge Play Streets.
A popular initiative embraced by local people, Redbridge Play Streets enables communities to close off their roads to traffic for a few hours a month so that neighbours, children, and families can socialise and play out together on the street safely.
Applications are now open to turn your street into a car-free, fun community space in time for His Majesty King Charles’ Coronation in May.
The deadline to submit completed applications is Wednesday 22 February.
We're inviting the residents of Redbridge to show their support for community swimming by joining us for Big Swim Day. For one day only, on Friday 24 February, we are offering half-price swimming sessions for everyone, so please come and join us at your local Redbridge pool.
Sessions are available for all ages; there’s no need to pre-book at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre. However, we advise you to check our timetable beforehand, which is available on our website and Vision app! Advance booking is required for Loxford and Mayfield Swimming Pools and is available up to seven days in advance.
Big Swim Day aims to increase the usage of local public support for swimming pools at a time of unprecedented pressure. The rise in energy costs has come on top of financial challenges due to pool closures during the COVID pandemic and continuing public expenditure constraints over many years.
We hope our regular swimmers will make an additional visit on that Friday, and many of the community who have not been for a while will make a special visit. Also, by offering a half-price swim, we hope users will reconnect or discover a newfound love for swimming and return on a regular basis.
