A big thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a colleague or team for the Recognising Redbridge Staff Awards 2022. We received over 300 nominations, more than the year before, which is amazing. It truly reflects how much great work is happening behind the scenes. It’s also lovely to see you recognise and celebrate each other.
Check out the list of nominees for each of this year’s categories – Rising Star, Customer Focus, Innovator, Apprentice of the Year, Connector, EDI Champion, and Outstanding Leader.
Receiving a nomination for the staff awards is a magnificent achievement so congratulations to each and every person who was nominated! If you’d like to know who nominated you and what you were nominated for, please get in touch with the HR team who will send you a copy of the nomination form.
We’ll be announcing who has been shortlisted for each category soon. Exciting times!

We’re sure you’ve all seen and heard the devastating impact two earthquakes had in Turkey and Syria on Monday 6 February.
Reports suggest that over 11,000 people have been killed as hundreds of buildings collapsed, with thousands more injured. Sadly, these figures continue to rise.
Freezing temperatures present an additional challenge, and thousands of families and children urgently need shelter, warm clothing, food, and water.
Redbridge Council is exploring ways in which it can provide support to those affected in the region and support our Turkish and Syrian communities.
Please read our intranet news story to find a list of organisations who are working in the regions now.

This week is National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) and we have been celebrating our wonderful apprentices and recognising the benefits of apprenticeships through our range of events. We’re also shining a light on some of our apprentices at the council.
Georgina Smith joined us as a Customer Service Advisor and has an important role as the first line for Redbridge resident queries as well as working with our other council services to find solutions for our residents’ concerns. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Georgina and her enthusiasm is appreciated by her whole team.
Rabiun Opi joined us as a Business Administrator and has worked within the Work Redbridge team to support the residents of Redbridge. The learning Rabiun has undertaken has helped her to provide advice and enable access to many individuals needing support and options with training and employment opportunities.
Johnson Gbagbo, Caroline Oliver, Lesley Perry, and Anne Adesida have achieved a Senior Leader Apprenticeship. Their achievement was even more remarkable as they had to contend with the lockdown period during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this challenge they all succeeded with their studies to achieve full certification.
Join our final session, Apprenticeships at Redbridge – Our Story and Opportunities, today, Thursday 9 February from 12 to 1pm to find out what opportunities we offer and how to recruit an apprentice in your team.
Visit our apprenticeship intranet page to find out more.

The Teams dial pad is here! For those of you who had a desk phone number, it will now have transferred to Teams!
The dial pad will make calls a quick way to connect with residents and staff. You can have calls with several people at a time or one-on-one calls. You can also set a call up ahead of time like a meeting, or you can start them on the fly while in a chat.
While meetings are a great way to collaborate in Teams, calls can be a more direct way of connecting so you can easily complete specific tasks or get your questions answered quickly.
Here are the first things to remember about making and managing calls in Teams.
The last two virtual demonstrations are taking place today, Thursday 9 February at 2pm, and tomorrow, Friday 10 February at 10am. Get one in your calendar now!
Visit the intranet to read our FAQs and ‘how to’ guides.

Shine a light on a colleague by making a Star of the Month nomination by 5pm, Wednesday 15 February.
You can nominate online for lots of different reasons – from outstanding customer service to innovative ways of working within the council. We provide a wide range of services to both residents and staff, and it would be great to see nominations that reflect the diverse functions and services that you all deliver.
In the 2022 Annual Staff Survey, you told us that recognition of the work that you and other colleagues do would have a positive impact on staff engagement and how you feel about working at Redbridge. Our Chief Executive, Claire Symonds, believes staff recognition is incredibly important, which is why she relaunched our monthly staff awards scheme last May.
Please visit the intranet for more information and get nominating!
