Pupils celebrate A-Level and GCSE results

Pupils across Redbridge have received their A-Level and GCSE results.

We would like to offer thanks and congratulations to all our schools, teachers, support staff, students and parents for their dedication, sacrifice and hard work.

A-Level results in the borough show a hugely impressive 21 per cent of students achieving AAB+ and an average points score per entry of 35.4

GCSE results show that: 

• 68% per cent of pupils achieved grades 5 or above in English and mathematics GCSEs
• The average attainment 8 score is 57.6
• 55% per cent of pupils entering the English Baccalaureate
• The average EBacc APS score per pupil is 5.32

The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said: "Congratulations to the pupils who recently collected their A-level and GCSE results. Redbridge has outstanding schools and provides excellent education and opportunities for young people.

World-leading university opens new medical campus in Ilford

We're delighted to announce that Queen Mary University of London will open a satellite campus for teaching medicine in the heart of Ilford. 

Queen Mary has taken space on the 12th floor of Lynton House, a Redbridge Council building, under a long-term lease. The space will be used for educational purposes, enabling medical students to learn in the classroom and a mock ward environment.

The welcome news forms part of our commitment to supporting local people to improve skills and gain employment by expanding local opportunities. 

Cost of living crisis: how we can help residents

We know that many of you are now facing the stark reality of soaring expenses as the cost of living increases.  

As a council we are committed to supporting local people with help and advice as we navigate through increased energy, food and fuel bills.  

One of the ways we can help is by getting people into active employment through Work Redbridge.

Work Redbridge provides information, advice and guidance to any Redbridge resident aged 18 or over looking for support to get into work, training, volunteering or self-employment. They also support those in work who are looking to increase their hours, change careers or find more secure employment.

Work Redbridge can help secure you an apprenticeship, a real job where you earn while you learn, gain experience and work towards a qualification.

Primary and secondary school admissions

Applications are now open for September 2023 places in primary and secondary schools in Redbridge.

For primary school admissions, the application applies to children with birthdays between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019.

For secondary school admissions, the application applies to children with birthdays from 1 September 2011 to 31 August 2012.

Applications can only be made online.

If you live in Redbridge, you must apply for a school place through us even if the school is not in Redbridge.

You need to apply through your own council if you are not a Redbridge resident. This includes school places for a Redbridge school.

Redbridge bids for £20 million to transform western Ilford

We've bid for £20 million to transform the arrival into Ilford from the west of the borough.

This investment from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund would transform Ilford town centre by maximising the potential of the Elizabeth Line, turning busy roads into calmer streets, creating a new public square and improving walking and cycling routes. 

If approved, the project would also significantly improve public spaces and create direct connections into Ilford town centre giving greater priority to public transport and active travel, like walking and cycling. All this would drive new footfall into Ilford town centre generating economic benefit for existing and new businesses, whilst accommodating growth.

We have released six new clips of grime crime offenders in our August edition of Redbridge Wall of Shame, and we need your help identifying the culprits caught on camera trashing our streets.

We have exciting plans to preserve and expand Fairlop Waters by adding 250 acres to the park in the coming years. Working with the community, we want to create an inspiring vision for Fairlop Waters.

Our specialist team has worked with a group of residents to create a long-term vision for the park. We want you to share your views on what can be added to improve the masterplan. We'll hold a series of drop-in sessions throughout August and September.

New film highlights how Redbridge Council is tackling crime head on

We recently released a powerful short film highlighting how we are tackling crime and making the borough safer for residents.

The film, narrated by the Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, details the steps taken by Redbridge Council to listen to residents' concerns and take action to reduce crime, antisocial behaviour and harassment.

The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said: "We all deserve to feel safe on our streets and that's why Redbridge Council is tackling crime head-on. We're working with Police, Council Enforcement Officers and our local communities to make our neighbourhoods safer so we can all go about our business without the fear of crime."

Redbridge stands with Pakistan

Redbridge Council and Ilford Islamic Centre, in partnership with Islamic Relief UK and Al Mustafa Welfare Trust, will be holding an emergency fundraising dinner at 6.30 on Monday 5th September, at Redbridge Town Hall to support the 33 million people affected by severe flooding in Pakistan.

The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said “The devastation unfolding in Pakistan is heart-breaking and deeply personal to so many in Redbridge who have family living in Pakistan. It is our responsibility to step up and stand by Pakistan in its hour of need, and we will do everything we can to help our brothers and sisters survive and recover from this catastrophic flooding.”

Ilford teenager helps Great Britain to second place in American Football World Championships

A young woman from Ilford has helped the Great Britain American Football Team win second place at the World Championships.

In a memorable summer of high drama for women's sport, 18-year-old Angelina Fisher-Cameron joins the likes of England Lionesses' Leah Williamson and Chloe Kelly in becoming a shining example of what hard work, determination, and a never-say-die attitude can bring you.

Angelina was part of the Great Britain American Football Team, who recently travelled to Finland for the IFAF women's American football world championships.

Despite entering the tournament as the sixth seed, Great Britain played their hearts out, overcoming tough competition on route to the final, where they locked horns with the USA.
