Redbridge Council has pledged £1.2 million to tackle the root causes of crime in response to the Community Crime Commission report recommendations.
Following the most significant public consultation in its history, Redbridge Council last year identified issues that most concern residents and established an independent Community Crime Commission to advise on ways to tackle them.
The funding will:
- Simplify services for victims of abuse
- Improve safety on our streets
- Increase CCTV coverage
- Fund school projects for young people
- Add more Enforcement Hubs across Redbridge
The council is holding two drop-in sessions this month to provide advice and support to residents affected by increases in the cost of living.

There are drop-in sessions on:
Thursday 17 March: 10am-2pm, Orchard Housing Office, Broadmead Road, IG8 0AG Wednesday, 23 March: 10am-2pm, Hainault Library, Manford Way, IG7 4DD
There is no need to book; people can just drop in.
Redbridge Council would like to thank everyone for their contributions to the Ukraine appeal.
Last week, the council opened a donation centre at Woodford Baptist Church, requesting essential items for refugees. The response was phenomenal, and by Wednesday, the church hall was jam-packed with donations, ranging from first aid kits, nappies and sanitary products.
These items are now making their way to those in need of aid.

Wasting food costs the planet and your pocket. Did you know on average, each home in the UK throws away eight complete meals a week, costing households around £720 a year?
The food we throw away also impacts the environment and contributes to climate change.
To raise awareness of the harmful impact of food waste, we’re supporting Food Waste Action Week (March 7-13) by sharing top tips and encouraging residents to take part in a seven-day challenge to reduce the amount of food waste from their homes to as close to zero as possible.
Local elections in the United Kingdom will be held on Thursday, 5 May 2022. These will include elections for all London borough councils and local authorities in Wales and Scotland.
The registration deadline is Thursday, 14 April. Once registered, you can also apply for a postal or proxy vote. Everyone is responsible for registering themselves – if their name or the name of another person residing at their address is not on the list, they are not registered and will not be able to vote.
Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. This year, we will celebrate a four-day Bank Holiday from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June.
Redbridge Council is delighted at the prospect of joining in the celebrations and is encouraging residents to hold street parties with their neighbours on Sunday, 5 June.
We're creating a handy guide, which will give residents some helpful hints and tips about staging a fun and safe street party. This online guide will be available shortly, and we will provide further details on our website and via social media very soon. Please watch this space!
Redbridge will waive any fees for street parties. If residents want to stage a street party, they should get in touch with their neighbours now to get their support.
People can even start getting their neighbours to fill out a signatories form which is a crucial part of the application pack.
For the council to progress an application, we need majority support from their neighbours.
We're delighted to announce that two projects from our Community Crowdfunding programme, with partners Spacehive, have reached their funding targets:
Walk It Out, and Greening South Woodford have both reached their funding targets.
Pledges can still be made for Crowdfunding projects:
We have lots of events to celebrate Women’s History Month at our libraries and walks in our parks and online talks. Many of the events look at this year’s International Women’s Day theme: Break The Bias.
