The Great British Spring Clean is back this March and we're dusting off the litter pickers in preparation. Save the date and keep your eyes peeled for more details about how you can get involved in Redbridge. Are you, a group of friends and family or a community group you're part of planning to join in? A UNICEF Child Friendly Redbridge

The Child Friendly Redbridge Partnership has been working with our young ambassadors on becoming a fully accredited UNICEF Child-Friendly borough by 2025.

The Child-Friendly Redbridge Action Plan has been approved so the delivery phase can now begin. The delivery phase will last two to three years with UNICEF UK supporting the partnership to monitor the action plan in delivering improvements in the lives of children and young people in Redbridge and we can't wait to see the results.

The Child Friendly Redbridge Partnership are now working with young people to launch the action plan. Look out for news of the launch and accompanying activities for children and young people by following @RedbridgeLive on Twitter and @redbridgeyouth on Instagram.

Red sacks are on their way

Following the successful roll out of wheelie bins across the borough, it's now time for us to make more deliveries of red sacks to households that were not suitable for wheelie bins, including to flats above shops.

For households that are not suitable for a wheelie bin, we supply red sacks for household rubbish that's left after you've recycled everything you can. Households are given 3 red sacks to accommodate the same amount of waste as the 180 litre wheelie bins.

If this applies to you, your next delivery of red sacks will arrive during the month of February for houses, and March for flats above shops. Please wait until the end of these months if you think you've been missed.

Where do you keep your recycling indoors?

We asked our friends and family to send us a photo of their indoor recycling solutions. Recycling is much easier to do if you have somewhere to put it before you take it outside.

Plastic boxes, bags for life, dedicated double bins or raffia baskets; whatever you choose to use make sure you place your recycling in your black and blue boxes on the boundary of your property by 7am on your collection day, or pop your recycling in your communal bins if you live in a flat.

Redbridge Action Day Seven Kings

On Wednesday 26 January several officers from across the council alongside the Met Police Safer Neighbourhood Team got together for a day of engagement and action around Seven Kings. Even the sun made an appearance!

Among the teams from across the council were our very own Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers and our Education and Engagement Team. Neighbourhood Enforcement were on the look out for any issues ranging from incorrect commercial waste disposal to fly tips. The Education and Engagement team were checking that local residents were aware of our bulky waste service and knew where and when to put their rubbish and recycling for collection.

We're making it easier to swap four wheels for two

Want to reduce your carbon emissions and save money on costly car expenses?

Our travel team are offering everyone in Redbridge the opportunity to ‘try before you bike’ which allows residents the opportunity to rent a new or nearly bike for a monthly fee.

Monthly fees start from £10 for children, £20 for adults or folding bikes, £50 for electric and £100 for cargo and e-cargo bikes.

If you like the bike and want to buy it you can sign up for a monthly interest free payment towards the bike.

We’ll even give you a helmet for free!

Valentine's Day is two weeks away and if you're thinking of celebrating with a special someone, friends or family we have put together some top tips for a plastic free Valentine's Day.

Swap plastic wrapped flowers for a potted plant or herb.
Try making a card yourself, leave the glitter in 2021, that stuff is packed with microplastics and can't be recycled!
Swap packaged sweet treats for a homemade cake (ask a talented friend to help if baking isn't your forte).
