We invite you to join us in commemorating victims of persecution at a special virtual service on Holocaust Memorial Day.
The online event will take place on Thursday 27 January. The service will feature several speakers including the Mayor of Redbridge, Redbridge councillors, faith leaders and more.
On Monday 17 January, the self-isolation advice for people with coronavirus (COVID-19) changed. It is now possible to end self-isolation after five days, following two negative LFD tests taken 24 hours apart.
The first LFD test should not be taken before day five of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. If you test positive on day five, a negative test is required on day six and day seven to release from isolation.
Eligible 16-to 17-year-olds can now book their booster vaccination through the national booking system by calling 119 or going to a local walk-in vaccination site.
If you are yet to have your COVID-19 1st, 2nd, or booster vaccination come and get your jab at one of our clinics in Redbridge.
Everyone over 12 is now eligible to book their first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, and those aged over 18 are now eligible to book their booster vaccination appointment by:
• booking via the NHS website • booking by calling 119 • visiting your local pharmacy - listed here • visiting one of our local vaccination centres listed on our website
New rules: COVID-19
Following the government’s announcement yesterday, 19 January, new COVID-19 rules will be coming into effect.
Effective immediately, you are no longer asked to work from home. Talk to your employer to agree working arrangements.
From today, 20 January, staff and pupils in secondary schools and colleges will not be required to wear a face covering in classrooms.
From 27 January, you will not be required to wear a face covering, including in communal areas of schools. However, it is still recommended to continue wearing a face covering in crowded and enclosed areas, especially if you are in contact with people you do not normally meet.
You will also no longer need to show your NHS COVID Pass at venues and events by law. Face coverings must continue to be worn when travelling on public transport.
It is important to remember that COVID-19 has not gone away. It is very important to continue to get tested, and get vaccinated.
Vaccinations and testing is still the best way to stop the spread and reduce the number of people becoming seriously ill from coronavirus. It is important to have all three doses of the vaccine as scientists and clinicians are finding that this provides the best protection against both catching the Omicron variant and/or passing it on to others.
As part of our continued commitment to supporting our most vulnerable residents we are providing £200,000 of funding to local food banks.
The money is available through the Household Support Fund, a £2million fund we’ve set up to support local families and individuals most in need of extra support this winter.
The Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, said: "The pandemic has hit many across the UK financially with local people who were previously managing, now struggling to pay their bills. The spiralling cost of living crisis and soaring energy costs are further compounding the challenge for our most financially vulnerable residents."
We are delighted to announce that the 'Spark Lab' will be launching in Ilford High Street in Spring 2022 in collaboration with Things Made Public.
The project will support the development of our Cultural Quarter, bringing a host of new creative activities, experiences and opportunities to the area.
To support the opening of The Spark Lab, we are calling on creators, makers, and local organisations who wish to share their creative ideas and an opportunity to gain residency for six weeks in the hub, where you could receive a £7,000 bursary to deliver your concept to visitors.
We are strengthening our bid to become carbon-zero by 2030 by installing 310 electric vehicle charge points across the borough.
We have secured £557,610 from the Office for Zero Emission's On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme, which funds 75% of the capital costs of the charge points. The remaining 25% will be financed by the council, a commercial partner or a part-funding agreement, reaching a total project value of £0.8 million.
A total of 310 slow / lamp post electric vehicle (EV) charge points will be installed across Redbridge by the end of March 2023.
We're proposing to renew the Additional Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licensing scheme to help tackle rogue landlords & raise rental property standards. We'd like to hear your views on our proposals.
The consultation is open until Monday, 7 March 2022.
If you'd like to receive the consultation documents in an alternative format, please email prslicensing@redbridge.gov.uk or write to Property Licensing Team, London Borough of Redbridge, 10th Floor Rear, 255 – 259 High Road, Ilford, IG1 1NY.
Ten young budding politicians will go head-to-head this month in their bid to get elected as the next two members of the Youth Parliament, representing Redbridge.
Members of the Youth Parliament (MYPs) are elected every two years across the UK. Once elected, members meet with MPs and local councillors, organise events, run campaigns, deliver speeches, hold debates, and ensure the views of young people are listened to by decision-makers.
The shortlist was whittled down from nearly 100 candidates, the highest number to ever apply.
The Redbridge Youth Election 2022 will take place between Monday, 31 January and Thursday, 10 February 2022.
