Confirmed cases of COVID-19 are slowly increasing in London and across the country. So that we can safely move into STEP 4 of the government roadmap out of lockdown on 19 July, and to keep you, your family and your neighbours safe from COVID-19, it is important to get vaccinated. Studies have shown that vaccination provides a strong boost in protection, including for those who have recovered from COVID-19.
To make it easier and quicker for residents to get their jabs, a partnership between Redbridge Council and the NHS will see more Pfizer vaccination clinics every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Ilford Town Hall from Thursday 1st to Sunday 18th July. Appointments are 4pm to 7pm with a walk-in clinic from 7.30 to 8.30pm.
To book an appointment, call the free phone line 0800 038 59 29 between 8am – 8pm, seven days a week.
Everyone aged 18 years or older can get their first or second Pfizer vaccine at these clinics. Please remember to invite any family members aged 18 or over, who have still not been vaccinated to come along.
No proof of address, immigration status or NHS number is required for the walk-ins – just confirmation of your age.

With cases slowly increasing, its still very important to regularly get tested. Around one in three people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect others. Residents should take a rapid test twice a week (every 3 to 4 days) to check if they have the virus. Anyone who tests positive must self-isolate to help stop the virus spreading.
Anyone can get regular rapid lateral flow tests without having symptoms.
Temporary closure this weekend:
The following lateral flow testing sites will be closed temporarily on Sunday 4 July and will reopen on Monday 5 July for testing:
- Redbridge Central Library, Ilford, IG1 1BP
- Wanstead Youth Centre, 144 Elmcroft Ave, E11 2DB
- Hainault Library, 100 Manford Way, Ilford, Chigwell IG7 4DD
If you have symptoms:
Residents can access walk-through test centres at Gants Hill Car Park and Charteris Car Park. Both of these testing sites are permanent and provide seven days a week coronavirus testing facilities in the borough. Residents should book an appointment before attending the centres:
For residents who don't have any COVID-19 symptoms, and are unable to work from home, there are three testing sites open daily between 10am and 7pm up to 5 July when availability will change to:
- 10:15-4.45pm, Monday to Saturday at Redbridge Central Library, Ilford, IG1 1BP
- 10:15-4.45pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Wanstead Youth Centre, 144 Elmcroft Ave, E11 2DB
- 10:15-4.45pm, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at Hainault Library, 100 Manford Way, Ilford, Chigwell IG7 4DD
Booking your test through the government portal
Residents can also book a rapid test at the mobile testing unit at Mildmay Rd, Ilford IG1 1DT through the government portal.
If you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app, please do so immediately. Your self-isolation period includes the day you were last in contact with the person who tested positive and the next 10 full days.
Residents and businesses should continue to be cautious and follow the hands, face, space and fresh air guidelines. Remember, outside is better than inside for meeting people, and please make sure you have both doses of the vaccine when you are offered it.
Concern about the coronavirus pandemic is perfectly normal. However, some people may experience intense anxiety that can affect their daily life.
If you feel that you need a little more help as we begin to get back to a more normal way of life, or that you may be experiencing anxiety or any mental health problem, please contact your GP. They can offer advice or refer you to specialist services.
