Communications will be sent to all staff next week on buying annual leave so please ensure you have discussions with your teams about the availability and eligibility of booking additional annual leave within your directorate.
Staff will have the opportunity in November to apply to buy a maximum of 10 days (pro-rata) additional annual leave for 2023. Additional annual leave can only be purchased where both of the following apply:
- the staff member is a permanent employee or employed on a fixed term contract that is in excess of a full leave year
- any salary deductions will not result in the staff member being paid below the National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage (as appropriate).
As with previous years, not all staff and teams will be able to take advantage of the scheme because of service demands or staffing levels. If managers are aware that applications will be rejected in certain areas, they should be clear with those staff members in advance so that expectations can be managed alongside meeting our business needs.
Staff can calculate the cost of buying additional annual leave using the online calculator. Please note the April 2022 pay award has not yet been agreed, therefore staff should be mindful of this when using the online calculator as this may cause a variation in the monthly deductions.
The policy, forms and FAQs are available on PolicyHub.
Further guidance for managers and the online calculator is available on the intranet.
