Thank you

During December, we invited you to donate gift boxes for young people who we support and may have felt lonely over Christmas. In just a few weeks, many generous donations were received and gifted in time for Christmas.

Charley Pitt, Team Leader of the Through Care team who coordinated the gift drive, said: "For the young people who we support, receiving a Christmas box really makes a difference. Your gifts, food and Christmas treats were really appreciated, and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated."

Thank you to everyone who supported the gift drive, Christmas Jumper Day or any of our other Christmas good causes.

Are you cyber secure?

How to Achieve a Positive Mindset

How we approach situations is very important. We can go out into the world afraid, making assumptions about how others feel about us, or we can move forward with the best possible outcome in mind.

New year, new you!

Foster

We urgently need more foster carers to provide loving homes for our city's vulnerable children and young people. Foster carers do an amazing job helping children reach their full potential, and you could do it too.

Our first foster carer recruitment event of 2022 takes place on Saturday 22 January from 10am to 1pm at Portsmouth's Holiday Inn Express, Farlington, and will provide an opportunity to talk directly to existing foster carers and hear first-hand about the rewards fostering can bring.

Join us to learn more about the positive impact you can make to the lives of Portsmouth's vulnerable children and young people.

Do you know a young person looking for a career in childcare?

Teach

In partnership with Portsmouth Aspirations Week, Teach Portsmouth recently hosted a webinar on early years education to showcase the rewarding careers people can enjoy supporting children aged 0 to 4 years-old in the city.

During the webinar, a nursery practitioner and nursery manager shared their experiences of working in an early years setting. Webinar host, Mindy Butler, childcare and early years manager at Portsmouth City Council presented information on how to become a nursery practitioner as well as the opportunities to progress in the profession.

A recording of the webinar is now available to watch on the Teach Portsmouth website. If you know any young people who would be interested in learning more about a career in early years education, please share this recording with them!

Still time to complete the SEND survey

SEND

Working with Dynamite Portsmouth, we have launched our annual survey which invites young people aged 13-25 with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to share feedback on services and support available in the city.

Responses will be used to shape future services for young people and their families. You can complete the survey online or request a paper copy by emailing eandsc@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
