Promenade construction continues apace on Frontage 5 East, with teams installing basalt fibre rebar mesh ahead of the next concrete pour. Made from volcanic basalt rock, the mesh provides strong reinforcement while being lightweight and resistant to corrosion from saltwater. Unlike traditional steel reinforcement, it won't rust in the harsh marine environment, helping to create a durable, long-lasting promenade that can be enjoyed for decades to come. Most importantly it saves over 60% in CO2 compared to steel reinforcement!

This 100-tonne crane has been one of the hardest-working pieces of equipment on Frontage 5 East, lifting and precisely placing the huge precast concrete units that form the new sea defences and promenade. Operating from a specially constructed platform, it has helped transform this stretch of seafront. With all of the first phase of the major lifts now complete, the crane has moved on to pastures new, having played a key role in delivering this part of the scheme.

This newly formed beach access ramp is one of the permanent features being delivered on Frontage 5 East. Once complete, it will provide an important route for maintenance and emergency vehicles, helping to keep Southsea seafront safe, accessible and resilient for years to come.

|
The new seating areas continuing to take shape along Frontage 5 East, with the installation of the concrete bases and kerbs that will frame future planting terraces. Once complete, timber benches will be added, creating places for people to stop, rest and enjoy views across the Solent.

Thanks to all of those who came to our last roadshow at Southsea Library.
Our next engagement event will be held on 23 and 24 October at CourtX, just off Eastern Parade. We'll be there to tell you all about the next phase of the project.

The Portsmouth International Kite Festival returns to Southsea Common on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, from 10am to 5pm each day.
As part of Portsmouth100, this year's festival will celebrate 100 Kites for 100 Years, with hundreds of spectacular kites filling the skies above the seafront. Expect giant inflatable kites, artistic creations and impressive flying displays from leading kite flyers from across the UK and beyond.
It's completely free to attend and there's plenty happening on the ground too, including children's kite-making workshops, family activities, creative crafts, a funfair, food stalls, local traders and the library bus.
You can also enjoy live music throughout the weekend from talented local acts performing with Live at the Bandstand.
Everyone is welcome, with welfare facilities, water refill points and quiet spaces available on site.

If you've spent time on Southsea seafront, you'll have seen the cruise ships arriving and departing from Portsmouth International Port. They're a familiar sight on the Solent and bring thousands of visitors to the city every year.
Now our port has been shortlisted for the 'Favourite Cruise Port' category in the 2026 Wave Awards, and we'd love your support.
Portsmouth International Port is the UK's most successful local authority-owned port, generating an estimated £10.8 million each year for the city through cruise visitor spending. Whether you've travelled through the port, attended one of its open days, or simply enjoyed spotting cruise ships from the seafront, this is a chance to help celebrate a Portsmouth success story.
You'll need to vote in all categories before submitting your entry, but it's free and only takes a couple of minutes.
Voting closes on 30 September 2026, with the winners announced on 24 November 2026.
