Down at South Parade Pier to Speakers’ Corner (Frontage 5 East) we have been laying ‘type 1’ subbase material along the new promenade and the access ramp. Type 1 is a base material which consists of crushed limestone aggregate; it is used to create strong, stable foundation layers. This is laid in preparation for the first promenade slabs to be cast in August. The promenade on this frontage will be raised by an average of half a metre to provide part of the primary flood protection here.

These updates will be taking a little break for the summer holidays and therefore there won’t be updates on the 7 August or the 14 August. But don’t fear - our updates are returning from the 21 August and will continue fortnightly from then on, keeping you up to date on the most important things happening on the project.

We’ve been busy constructing the steps alongside the new pedestrian ramp, which will provide accessible access for all users between the promenade and road level. The steps will offer an additional route down to road level for those who prefer it.
The units either side of the steps were installed first, followed by the blinding (a stable concrete base layer). Once this had cured, the step units were placed on top. There are ten steps in total, connecting the new promenade level with the existing road level at this location. This is the first of two sets of steps that will be installed along this frontage, complementing the new pedestrian ramp and improving access for everyone.
|
|
Installation of our precast units has been continuing, including two new bench bases at the western end of our site.
We have now installed over 200 units out of a total of 349 so are well over halfway!
|
Don’t forget our roadshow drop in event is also coming up next month and we would love to see you there
We'll be near Speakers’ Corner in our gazebo on Thursday 20 August, between 10am – 1pm.

Did you know Southsea Skatepark is one of the UK's oldest outdoor skateparks? It provides a safe and welcoming space for skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter users and inline skaters of all ages and abilities. The skatepark is looking for volunteers to help keep the facility thriving.
Opportunities include marshalling, repairs and maintenance, gardening and other practical tasks. Volunteers who work directly with park users, such as marshals, will need a DBS check, which the charity arranges.

The countdown is on, with Victorious Festival now just over a month away. From 28–30 August, Southsea seafront will once again welcome thousands of music fans for one of the UK's biggest and best-loved family-friendly festivals.
This year’s line-up features some of the biggest names in music, with Richard Ashcroft, The Black Keys and Kasabian headlining the Main Stage across the three-day festival. Festivalgoers can also look forward to performances from Scissor Sisters, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, The Streets, Faithless, Bastille and Basement Jaxx, alongside dozens of other artists performing across multiple stages on Southsea Common.
