We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to send messages of support following the recent loss of a member of our team. The kindness and compassion shown by residents, visitors and stakeholders has meant a great deal to colleagues across the project.
We have received a number of messages suggesting a memorial in our colleague's memory. Our focus at this time is on supporting their family, friends and teammates. We will be speaking with the family and will be guided by their wishes regarding any memorial or tribute.
Thank you again for your understanding, kindness and support.
At the western end of sunny South Parade Pier to Speakers’ Corner frontage (Frontage 5 East) we have been installing ‘toe beams’ at the base of the stepped revetments. These concrete toe beams are made by pouring concrete between the sheet piles and the revetments; they are there to keep these units secure and stop them from sliding into the beach material.

Some of the stepped revetments, completed with the toe beam described above, are now finished. This week, we have started reprofiling the beach material in front of these structures. As on other frontages, the beach material will cover most of the steps, leaving only the upper steps exposed. The beach level will continue to be monitored as part of the Beach Management Plan to ensure it remains at the required level and continues to provide the intended standard of coastal protection.

The pedestrian ramp leading from the new promenade level to road level is really taking shape now (pictured).
We have installed more precast wall units here this week. Once the remaining ramp units are fully installed, we will start backfilling material to bring the ground level up to the correct height ready for the concrete slabs to be poured here in the future. There will be a lighting column at the bottom of this ramp, so we will also be installing ducting for the electric cables whilst we are backfilling to the required level.

Last week we set up camp at The D Day Story to speak to 54 students from The Petersfield School.
They were keen to bring to life the Southsea Coastal Scheme and see it for themselves as they will be using Southsea as a coastal defence case study.
Following on from our talk they went for a walk along the completed frontages, and the sun shone for them too!

SailGP returns to Southsea on 25–26 July, bringing world-class racing, thousands of visitors and international attention to Portsmouth.
Temporary promenade closures by Southsea Castle and the bandstand are now in place to support the event build. The Southsea Common and Speaker's Corner sections of the promenade remain open, including over race weekend, providing continued access to the seafront.
Southsea Castle will be closed from 13–31 July, while The D-Day Story remains open throughout.
As a thank you to the local community, an exclusive ticket offer is available for Portsmouth residents. Tickets can be booked via the SailGP website using the code S6LOCALRES10.
