Update from the park

Thanks to My Portsmouth By Drone for this aerial image taken on Tuesday 7 July! Our contractors Wilmott Dixon have been making great progress, even with the high temperatures we're seeing recently.
You can now clearly see the pools and the balance tank on the right, and also where the foundations for the main building's structure are being formed on the left. The lift pits, mentioned in the last bulletin, can also be seen in the middle left. More on all these below.
To compare progress from our last update, take a look at it on the link below.

There has been fantastic progress here - you can even see the difference from the aerial photo taken on Tuesday, to this one taken on Thursday morning! You'll notice that a fresh layer of concrete blinding has been applied to the deeper part of the pool, providing a clean, dry, and level surface.
With all the piling in place below the pool that we've shown you before, this will hold the structure securely in place as the groundwater level changes in the park throughout the seasons.

This structure is the balance tank for the main pool and learner pool. Although they sit out of sight below ground, they play a vital role in keeping the pools operating smoothly.
As swimmers enter and leave the water, the balance tanks temporarily store and regulate changes in water volume, helping to maintain the correct water level in each pool. They also form part of the pools' filtration and circulation systems, ensuring water can be efficiently cleaned and returned to the pools.

Around the perimeter of the building, these piles have been put in place, forming the foundations of the building itself. A concrete pad will be formed on top of this, and then the building's structure will be anchored to that. You'll start to see the building itself coming out of the ground after the summer!

In the last edition we showed you the lift pit. This part of the structure is now beginning to come out of the ground, with shuttering being installed ready for the next concrete pour, which will bring it up to ground level. Once that stage is complete, the pre-cast lift shaft will be lifted into place on top.

Our hoardings are going up! And the stars of the show are the fantastic pictures that were provided to us by Year 4 at nearby Milton Park Primary.
Our contractors, Signshop, are putting the finishing touches to the hoarding over the coming days but this part is up ready to view now.
