Accessible version of the Bright Sparks Book available on PEP website
Hard copies of the Bright Sparks Book are being sent to schools this week. These should be left in reception or the staffroom and shared with the Bright Sparks who are mentioned in the book.
You might want to celebrate the Bright Spark's contribution in an assembly, staff briefing or school newsletter. If you do share on social media, please tag Teach Portsmouth (search “Teach Portsmouth” on your preferred platform).

Assistive Technology Lending Library showcase events – September 2026
Want to see assistive technology in action? This September, the Assistive Technology Lending Library (ATLL) will be hosting a series of practical showcase events at City of Portsmouth College (Highbury Campus), led by specialist practitioners from Portsmouth. Each showcase will focus on how assistive technology can be used to remove barriers to learning.
Showcase themes 15 September 2026 from 9am Supporting pupils with EAL and early language acquisition Delivered by the Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS).
16 September 2026 from 9am Supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) Delivered by Cliffdale Outreach Service.
17 September 2026 from 9am Supporting pupils with Visual Impairment (VI) Delivered by the Vision and Hearing Impairment Team.
The 30 - 40 minute sessions will provide opportunities to:
- See assistive technology demonstrated in practice
- Ask questions and handle equipment available through the ATLL
- Learn from colleagues with specialist expertise
- Borrow equipment, on the spot, to take back to your education setting for use with the children and young people.
Please complete the form by Friday 24 July, selecting your preferred time slot. We will confirm your allocated session by email no later than 1 September 2026.

Read to the Beat - 2026 Summer Reading Challenge in Portsmouth libraries
The Summer Reading Challenge launched on 4 July and is a great free summer long journey of discovery for children aged aged 4 to 11 to keep reading throughout the summer holidays. They can set their own reading target and earn rewards along the way.
Everyone who reaches their target will be invited to a Celebration Event at Southsea Castle on Sunday 27 September.
Head to your local library to sign up and get ready to Read to the Beat! this summer. Portsmouth library service .

Reminder: PSHE – Phoenix Training PDP Opportunities
Phoenix Training offers practical Personal, Life and Financial Skills sessions for Year 10 and Year 11 students, covering employment, risk awareness, health, resilience, confidence, self-awareness and other important life topics that may not always be covered in school or at home.
Suitable for: Year 10 and 11 students, particularly those at risk of becoming NEET or with neurodiverse needs.
Format: Weekly PSHE sessions or back-to-back three-hour workshops for groups of 10–15 students.
Cost: £150 per session, including planning discussions, training materials and delivery. Fully enhanced DBS certificate held.

If you're scheduling your own event or training, you can check availability on the PEP calendar to avoid potential clashes with other events.
