Communities invited to apply for funding to reduce flood risk |
|
 |
Community groups, schools and organisations in Portsmouth are invited to apply for a new grant to help manage rainwater and reduce local flood risk. The Community SuDS (sustainable drainage systems) grant offers up to £2,000 to support the installation of rainwater planters in visible community locations across the city. The deadline is Monday 29 June 2026.
With heavier rainfall and longer wet periods there is increasing pressure on drainage systems and risk of surface water flooding. SuDS help manage rainwater naturally by slowing the flow into drains and allowing it to soak into the ground or be absorbed by plants. This reduces flood risk, eases pressure on the drainage network and supports local wildlife.
Funding can be used for planters connected to downpipes, along with soil, plants and installation costs. The grant is open to a range of locations including schools, community centres, GP surgeries, social housing spaces and businesses where the installations can be seen by the public.
The grant is delivered in partnership with Southern Water as part of the Nature Positive Portsmouth programme.

Ofsted report for Arundel Court Primary Academy and Nursery
A new Ofsted report is now available for Arundel Court Primary Academy and Nursery, following a school inspection on 14 April 2026.
Inspectors noted that, "Leaders have established effective behaviour routines. Positive relationships between staff and pupils are the basis of the behaviour system. There is very little disruption to learning. Leaders have taken action to reduce suspensions. They focus on the reasons why pupils occasionally disrupt learning. Interventions to help pupils cope in lessons are effective. They support pupils to stay and learn in their lessons. Bullying is rare, and when it does happen, leaders deal with it and stop it from happening again. Where there needs to be adaptations to the behaviour system, they are put in place with both families and pupils. This all leads to a calm and focused learning environment."
You can read the full report here.
