Your North Portsea Scheme update

 As Sir David Attenborough turns 100 today, we’re reminded of the importance of protecting our planet for future generations.
The North Portsea Coastal Scheme takes a long‑term view, looking beyond today to protect local communities, wildlife and green spaces from the increasing risks of climate change and rising sea levels. This scheme is designed to provide protection for the next 100 years, combining engineering with environmental restoration.
As Portsmouth marks 100 years of city status, we’re celebrating a century of people, places and protection. If you or someone you know is also turning 100 this year, we’d love to hear from you.

Work is progressing at Ports Creek with the Flex MSE wall - it's much higher than it was during the last update - there is actually 908 bags that make up this wall! This is as high as it's going to be now, so we'll be spraying it with wildflower seeds this week. Once these embed you won't see the black bags, it's just look like a gorgeous and natural living wall.

Here you can see top of the Flex MSE wall at Ports Creek. To the right we'll be installing a metre wide path, finished with the famous Breedon gravel, and either side of the path there'll be a coastal grass and wildflower mix, much like the path at Anchorage Park. We'll also be adding a handrail in the coming weeks, just for safety.

Fun fact - further down the scheme we have these heaps of earth, you may be able to see all the little flags poking out of the top. If any of you have seen Clarkson's Farm you might think we've found some endangered species...but it's actually to deter birds! There is so much wildlife around here, and we don't mind little beetles and bugs hanging out here, but if birds start landing and nesting here, it has the potential to delay our works into next year!

The earth being brought in is carefully compacted to help protect the city from rising sea levels. It’s laid in 25cm layers and compacted using specialist machinery, with every layer tested and approved by inspectors. They visit daily to sign off each layer before work can continue. In this photo the top right section will be a grass area, and a Breedon gravel path will go down to the left, with rails installed to guide people that way.

We are pleased to let you know that the path refresh work at Kendall's Wharf (Eastern Road) is now complete ahead our schedule! The fences have been removed and the public are able to access the area again.
Thank you all for your patience while we have carried out this work.

Just a reminder that Milton Coastal path is currently closed while we are refreshing the path, but we will be opening this in sectioned as soon as the stages are safe to be opened to the public. You can still access the People's Memorial.
And work has now started at Tipner, setting up the compound so we can refresh the paths, areas around the seating and the stepping stones here. We aim to be out of here by mid July.
