We have now received a digital transfer record from every Early Years setting in Portsmouth! A huge thank you for all your work to complete this information sharing activity. We have been able to match all your EY children to their allocated schools and compile a cohort spreadsheet for each school and their Year R classes.

The purpose of the digital transfer record is to indicate to schools any children with additional needs who will be starting in their reception classes. The transfer record is not a comprehensive overview of a child's learning and development. Please feel free to send schools additional information e.g. IEPs/SEN Support Plans, Summative Assessments etc.

We will be sending the collated cohort transfer records out to schools on 5 May after the deadline for parents to accept their allocated places (please encourage your parents to do this).

Schools will then be able to analyse the information you have sent through and identify any children where further discussions will support a strong transition into school.

Schools will review the information you have shared to help them understand the needs of their incoming cohort and identify any children who may benefit from further discussion to support a strong and positive transition.

Schools plan and allocate support at different points in the summer term and SENCOs/Early Years Leads/Year R teachers may therefore contact settings at different times. Schools have told us that many will follow up after May half-term, although some may make contact earlier to support planning and staffing arrangements.

Save the date for Wednesday 20 May, 4.00pm - 6.00pm at New Horizons Primary School.

You MUST book your place via the Traded Services website.

This is an opportunity to meet with Year R teachers to share more information about children transitioning into school.

We will send out a list of schools who have registered to attend the week beginning 18 May. If you book your place, please ensure you attend as schools will be expecting to talk to settings who have signed up. On arrival you will be able to add your setting name to the list on each school's table if you would like to discuss children, which will ensure schools remain at the meeting until they have spoken to those who have indicated they would like a discussion.

We will also have a range of resources for you to peruse relating to various projects, e.g. Read With Me, 50 things to do before you're 5 etc

A reminder that we have the SEN Transition Tool for you to use to support a meeting and planning those first days and weeks in Year R for any child who does not have a final EHCP but has ongoing SEND needs.

We would strongly encourage you to use the tool, as it is an effective way to share your best practice, involve parents in the transition and ensure that children have the best start to their school journey.

Once again we have a leaflet detailing the 15 recommended reads for every child starting school in September. Schools will be giving out the leaflets, but do feel free to also share these with parents. And of course, we hope lots of you are using your Read With Me books this term to support children's communication, language and literacy skill development.
