Progress is being made on the new Bransbury Park leisure centre and healthcare hub as enabling works are to begin next month, led by Willmott Dixon.
The clearance work on the old courts has been completed, and what is known as the 'enabling works' will begin on 13 April, starting with the site compound and hoardings. In May, graphics will be added to the hoardings, which will include artwork from Year 5 children at Milton Park Primary School.
This will be home to the new 25m four-lane pool, learner pool, gym, and healthcare facilities. The gym will have 65 stations, with two group exercise studios. This will allow a full range of cardio and resistance equipment, along with free weights. There will also be new artificial turf pitch and multi‑use games area at the north of the site, which will remain free to use, and will include floodlighting. The project is scheduled to complete in winter 2027.
The building work will be carried out by Willmott Dixon. Established in 1852, they are one of the UK's leading independent construction companies with an excellent track record of delivering public buildings such as this one. They will be sending a letter to residents living next to the site to introduce themselves. John, the site manager in the picture above, was born in Portsmouth and still has strong links to the city so cannot wait to get started on this important project.
This drone image of the site, looking east, really helps show the size of the site and where it sits within the park. The new centre, artificial turf court and multi-use games court will be built on the existing paved area, just beyond Eastney Community Centre (the building with solar panels). The community centre will remain as it is and open throughout construction. You can also see the new playground under construction in the background (more on that below).
Bransbury Park’s Miniature Railway has served families for 50 years and needs its worn track replaced to protect this heritage.
Your support will help preserve an important part of Portsmouth’s heritage and ensure future generations can continue to enjoy the magic of miniature railways.
