Understanding the new statutory PSHE guidance |
|
 |
Portsmouth's personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education leads were recently invited to a continuing professional development session outlining the new statutory PSHE guidance, and how this may impact PSHE delivery from September 2026 onwards.
Please see a copy of the slides (primary and secondary), which includes important information on what changes have been made to guidance, and what schools should be including in their lessons.

Celebrating Languages Week (16–20 March 2026) |
|
 |
It's Celebrating Languages Week and the City of Languages group have launched some more exciting ideas and activities to help you get involved. It's not too late to enjoy the fun!
There's an excellent multilingual writing competition for schools, with lots of great prizes and the exciting opportunity to feature in a book capturing 'thoughts of family, thoughts of home'. Don't forget that the Ethnic Minority Achievement Service's bilingual learning assistants can support with first language.
A song written for the City of Languages is now here to enjoy too. Another great earworm which you can join in, either in English or British Sign Language (BSL). You can even try to write your own verse in another language or translate the words that are already there. Many thanks to the schools already involved in the lovely video.
For more information about these and many other ideas and activities, visit the Portsmouth Education Partnership website.
Please share your activities, or any feedback, with Liz Lord (lizlord0502@gmail.com) or Karen Thomas (Karen.Thomas2@portsmouthcc.gov.uk). Watch out for us on the big screen in Guildhall Square every hour and on Portsmouth City Council's social channels!

Share your feedback on the Community Learning Service's free family workshops |
|
 |
Community Learning Services sits within Portsmouth City Council’s economy, planning and transport directorate and is funded by the Department for Education. Based at The Learning Place in North End, they have proudly delivered free family learning workshops and courses to Portsmouth schools for the past 20 years.
In recent years, they have observed a significant decline in school engagement with family learning. Before making decisions about the future of the offer, they would like to hear from schools to understand:
- Any comments or feedback you can share on the challenges or barriers affecting engagement
- Your view on whether family learning continues to meet the needs of your school community
- Whether you would be willing to meet to explore, collectively, how best to strengthen participation and ensure that families continue to access this support
Please send your comments and feedback to Sue.Parkes@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
Could you be a volunteer police cadet leader? |
|
 |
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is looking for volunteers to help support their cadet units, attending various events throughout the year and helping with the smooth running of the weekly sessions.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to use their personal qualities and skills within their community and learn, alongside police cadets, how Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary operate. It is a great chance to help give back to your local community by helping shape the understanding of today’s youth.
