Young Carers Action Day 2026: Wednesday 11 March |
|
 |
Young Carers Action Day 2026 takes place on Wednesday 11 March, with a focus on the theme ‘Fair Futures for Young Carers’.
Head to the Young Carers Action Day website to access more information and associated resources from the Carers Trust relating to this national event, including a video about 11 year old Thomas, who's been a young carer for two years.
Other useful resources:
If you would like Portsmouth Young Carers Service to send you a copy of their young carers assembly presentations (for EYFS, KS1, KS2 or KS3&4) for staff in your school to present, please email: youngcarers@portsmouthcc.gov.uk. They will ensure that you receive the presentation in time to add your school's individual young carers information.
As you prepare for this important day, please remember that whilst some young carers are happy to talk about what they do and who they support, others prefer not to share this personal information about themselves outside of their immediate friendship and support circle.
Portsmouth Young Carers Service would love to hear about any activities that you provide in school/college to celebrate and raise awareness of young carers, and the amazing things they do to support their loved ones (with the young people's permission). Please email this, and any additional questions you may have about young carers, the service and offer to: youngcarers@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

Portsmouth awards recognition - public vote opportunity |
|
 |
We are delighted to announce that Portsmouth has received four major national award nominations this week, celebrating the innovative digital work happening across our schools and services.
Edufuturists Uprising Awards 2026 – Portsmouth finalists
Cumberland Infant School & Craneswater Junior School — Primary School of the Year: Shortlisted for exceptional digital innovation and collaborative work through the Portsmouth: The Digital City Project and the RISE SE Universal Digital Partnership, transforming teaching, learning and inclusion from EYFS to Year 6.
Springfield — Secondary School of the Year: Recognised for their strong inclusion-first approach to digital accessibility, including leadership with DocsPlus and Chromebooks, supporting SEND learners and contributing to national Crick Software case studies.
Jessica Hussey — Accessibility Champion of the Year: Celebrated for her outstanding contribution to digital accessibility across the Education Inclusion Service and the Vision & Hearing Team, improving systems, reducing barriers and gaining national recognition.
All three finalists will represent Portsmouth on the national stage in Liverpool this June.
As part of their nomination there is a public vote and we'd like to ask for your support.
Citywide AI initiative – national finalist
We are also proud to share that Portsmouth’s citywide AI initiative has been selected as one of three national finalists in the Digital Leaders AI Impact Awards. This recognition highlights the inclusive, forward-thinking work taking place across our schools impacting not only Portsmouth, but settings nationally.
Again there is a public vote, which we'd be really grateful for your support.
Portsmouth Music Hub |
|
 |
From September 2026, the council's Portsmouth Music Service will be working alongside Portsmouth Guildhall Trust to provide support for a new music hub manager post as part of a planned transition prior to local government re-organisation, whereby Portsmouth Guildhall Trust becomes the lead partner for the music hub in Portsmouth.
As now, a wide range of funded and subsidised musical opportunities will continue to be available to schools for our children and young people.
Portsmouth Music Service will continue to be led and championed by Sue Beckett and team, and the service level agreement for 2026-27 will be with schools imminently, so schools can buy into the high-quality music education opportunities we all value so much.

Homelessness awareness sessions for schools – The Society of St James |
|
 |
The Society of St James (SSJ) is a local charity dedicated to preventing, relieving and ultimately ending homelessness. 365 days a year, our passionate staff and volunteers work alongside people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, offering guidance, housing and practical solutions to help rebuild their lives. We believe everyone has the right to a safe place to live and to be treated with dignity.
We are offering age-appropriate awareness sessions for educational settings across Portsmouth. Sessions can be delivered as assemblies or interactive workshops, tailored to different age groups. They explore the causes of homelessness, challenge misconceptions and highlight local realities, helping to raise awareness and understanding.
Sessions can support PSHE, citizenship or enrichment programmes.
Visit the SSJ website to book a session. For further information, contact Lucy Potts at fundraising@ssj.org.uk.

The school, with the support of the local authority and Salterns Academy Trust, is proposing to create up to 20 specialist ASC places (over 5 years, with the centre opening with 8 places initially) within a purpose-designed Inclusion Centre on the existing school site.
You can share your views by either:
