Participation and progression
Portsmouth Schools Football Association for primary schools |
|
 |
The Portsmouth Schools Football Association organises events and tournaments throughout the year for primary schools in the city. We had a great season in 2024-25 with over 800 children from 24 schools taking part in the various events, all of which were played in a fantastic spirit. We hope that the 2025-26 season will again enable children to enjoy football and represent their schools in an environment of friendly competition.
All competitions are completed over one afternoon at Goals on Tangier Road with trophies and medals presented to the winning teams. All games are six-a-side with a maximum squad of 10 children able to attend. The year 6 tournaments are scheduled for the autumn 1 half-term with the year 5 tournaments taking place in spring 2. We are looking to hold a year 4 tournament for the first time in May 2026.
Affiliation and entry forms have been sent out to PE Leads and KS2 school admin email addresses over the last fortnight. These need to be returned to mstedman@courtlanejnr.co.uk by Monday 23 June 2025.
For further information please contact Matt Stedman at Court Lane Juniors at mstedman@courtlanejnr.co.uk or Curtis Tait at Wimborne Primary at ctait@wimborne.portsmouth.sch.uk.
Portsmouth Boys’ Impact Hub: Invite to a stakeholder kick-off event |
|
 |
The University of Portsmouth are committed to enabling change through strategic collaboration, and are seeking to set up and chair a regional Boys Impact Hub. Connected to a newly formed national network of Boys Impact hubs, the Portsmouth Boys Impact Hub will bring together stakeholders across the local area to meaningfully address the gap in GCSE outcomes for young men who are eligible for Free School Meals, by undertaking strategic activity in research, pedagogy, policy and practice to support the outcomes of young men in their local educational, social, and geographic contexts.
The hub will facilitate sharing of approaches, inspire cross-collaboration and incubate new initiatives - including co-designing a personal development programme for boys, delivered in schools, by schools, with direct input and support from stakeholders across the locality.
You are invited to attend a stakeholder kick-off session, delivered in partnership with Boys Impact and Grit:Breakthrough programmes at the University of Portsmouth on Thursday 10 July 2025, 9am - 12pm. The kick off sessions aim to:
-
Collectively frame the need for, and shape of, a Portsmouth Boys Impact Hub: establish the deeper level of conversation we want to engage in, exploring the barriers to engaging at this level and create an environment of contribution and generative listening;
-
Develop a shared vision and language for authentic collaboration in making a difference to the educational experiences of boys: investigate what stops us from putting aside our individual agendas to achieve something bigger and explore the role of listening, to each other, our colleagues and to young people.
-
Recognise our assumptions, patterns and biases: what are some of the assumptions we make about boys and what are the implications of this in the challenges faced by boys in education?
-
Individual and collective commitments: What are we committing to in order to create transformative change in boys outcomes locally? Explore the difference between ‘want to’ and ‘committed to’. Where have we ‘wanted’ change but not committed to it? What will be different here?
