It's getting in-tents

large tent over pool

It's all go at the lido site at the moment!

If you've walked past you've probably seen the HUGE structure over the pool - this is the temporary tent we've been talking about. This will soon be completely covered and will protect the pool from the weather.

Once complete, the team can start putting the finishing touches to the pool!

We have the power

ground work

From the outside, it looks a bit like we are now digging up the relatively tidy site, and passers by are probably thinking "what are you doing?!"

But that's not the case. The site looked nice and tidy because we'd laid a haul road through it with a crane mat by the plant room. This meant that heavy machinery and equipment could come and go without sinking or getting stuck in the mud.

We're finished with all that heavy equipment now, so it's time to start digging up that haul road and prepare for the final surface. In this photo you can see a trench being dug out, this is for electric cables, so the plant room has electricity.

Base-ically a chemical store

The team are finishing off the plant room roof, but just in front, they've built a the base for the chemical store. The walls will be made of blockwork finished with render.

A double gate will be installed in the fence, so chemicals can be delivered safely to the site without having to transport them through the main pool area.

Showering ahead

And finally on the construction side of things, the team are preparing to install outdoor showers, so you can rinse off before/after jumping in the pool! Don't worry though - these are not the only showers...there are lovely hot (and private) showers available in the modular units!

Donating to the project

man and woman stood with large cheque

This week we had a visit from FR Consultants, who have kindly donated £1,200 towards the Hilsea Lido project as a Social Value contribution.

Portsmouth City Council's Social Value model is something we’re very proud of. We put the emphasis on the difference that Social Value makes to the lives of our residents.

Last year, we held an event to discuss how businesses can get involved in making the lido an even better community facility. If you missed it, there's still a chance to get involved by emailing HilseaLines@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

In our original call to action for the site, we identified a number of areas where we would particularly appreciate support, including:

  • Landscaping, turf and planters
  • Fencing, barriers and guardrails
  • Sponsorship of the refurbished fountain planter
  • Fairy lights/festoon lighting etc
  • Picnic tables/benches, bins
  • Landscaping around the Lido site

We would still be delighted to work with anyone who would like to support with these items.

SSE works on Northern Road

king george v football complex

From Tuesday 6 - Saturday 24 May SSE will be carrying out works to upgrade the power supply to the King George V Football Complex.

A section of the road adjacent to the playing field will be reduced to one lane open each way.

Bus stop, King George Playing Fields (Stand F) will be suspended during the works. This will affect First Bus services 2,3 and Stagecoach services 18,20,23. Please check service details with bus operators.

Work carried out by SSE will improve the power supply to the new pavilion café, social meeting space, and ‘Changing Places’ toilet for people limited in their mobility who may need additional equipment or space for carers.
