Spring is finally here! It's time to look forward to blooming flowers, warmer temperatures, and longer sunny days.
If you are planning a spring spruce up in the garden, the 'Leaf It Out' garden waste service could help make things a little easier. For as little as £70 a year, we can help you to dispose of loose garden waste items including leaves, grass, hedge, and tree cuttings, or woody materials under 10cm.
Bins will be collected and emptied every two weeks from outside your property. You can pay for your subscription annually or in monthly instalments.

 Bring them back
Remember to bring your bins back in after they have been emptied. We all need to work together to keep pavements clear and accessible, and sometimes the bins can cause some difficulties. If you live in a flat fronted house, you can also put bin bags on the pavement instead of your rubbish bin, or you can swap your recycling bin for portable recycling caddies to make things easier.

 New doorstep collections
Have some unwanted textiles and small household items in a reusable condition? We have partnered with Anglo Doorstep Collections to bring you a free and convenient collection service. For every collection, Anglo also makes a donation to one of their selected charities. Each donation is carefully repurposed and re-homed for it's original intended use. Items can be left outside for drivers if preferred.

We've got some egg-cellent facts for you this Easter. Forget about putting all your eggs in one basket, here at Portsmouth City Council, we thrive with multiple baskets to separate our recycling.
Did you know, if all the Easter eggs bought in the UK were laid out in a line, they would stretch the entire length of The Great Wall of China! But what about the waste? Here are some other egg-stremely surprising stats:
- Around 8 million Easter eggs are uneaten and discarded as food waste
- A quarter of an Easter eggs weight is the packaging - usually cardboard, plastic or foil
- Easter egg packaging creates over 8,000 tonnes of waste in the UK each year

Have you seen our food waste lorries?
Some of our lorries have had a little food waste makeover! You may see our newly wrapped lorries doing the rounds across the city in the coming weeks, ensuring we correctly recycle our food waste.
Around 20% of our rubbish is still made up of food waste which could be better used if it was separated. Recycling food waste can help us create something much more useful for the planet, including natural forms of energy such as biogas - an excellent alternative to fossil fuels. Food waste can also be processed into a natural, nutrient rich fertiliser for spreading on the fields - helping us grow the food we could be cooking next year!
To get your own food waste caddy, just fill in the online form.
