I would first like to offer my huge thanks and well done for finding your way successfully to the end of the first term of the school year, always a long and busy one, often ending with plays, tinsel and glitter or assessments, mocks and marking.
This term was likely busier for many due to Portsmouth being in the final stage of the activities for the Priority Education Investment Area (PEIA). Thank you for all your continued engagement, either in delivering aspects of the programme or being an active participant. Please do make the most of all opportunities available until March. I look forward to hearing about the positive impact of the programme through the remainder of the year.
As the year draws to an end, I have just had the delightful experience of a year R Christmas play. I saw first hand the absolute joy these occasions bring to the children, their parents, carers and wider families, but also the demand on our amazing teaching staff. I can only say, you have my full respect, and it is truly worth it!
On the theme of early education, we all know and understand the importance of giving our youngest children the very best start in their school journey, which will benefit them and us throughout their time in school. To support you in this, early education will be the focus of the next PEP teaching and learning conference.
I look forward to meeting many of you at the Early Education Conference on 6 February 2025 and continuing to work together on the PEIA, and as always rising to whatever challenges the next year brings.
I wish you all a restful Christmas break and Happy New Year.

The city's largest recruitment fair for education jobs returns to Portsmouth Guildhall on Wednesday 26 February 2025 from 10am - 2pm. Over 24 exhibitors will promote jobs, training and volunteering opportunities in schools and colleges across the city.
Exhibitor spaces are filling up quickly so don't miss your opportunity to promote teaching, learning assistant and wider support vacancies. Over 300 people came through the bronze doors of Guildhall last year.
For more information about exhibiting, please visit the Portsmouth Education Partnership website and submit your booking form by Friday 31 January 2025.
If you have any questions, please email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
2. Get ready to nominate in the Teach Portsmouth Awards 2025
The Teach Portsmouth Awards returns to Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 12 June 2025 to celebrate the outstanding contributions education professionals make to the lives of children and young people in the city.
We've already had a fantastic response to the people's choice award - the only category that allows members of the public to nominate an education superstar.
Online nominations for the remaining 11 award categories will open on Monday 13 January 2025 and close on Friday 14 February 2025.
Head to the Teach Portsmouth website for a full list of this year's award categories.
We will be providing more information on the nominations process in the new year. In the meantime, please email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk if you have any queries.
