In last month's edition, we talked about some of the modifications being made to the planning application for the leisure centre and GP surgery in Bransbury Park. For example, we've addressed Sport England's concerns about the loss of grass football pitches by moving the location of the play area, meaning we can accommodate the same number.
We have also been working closely with the local planning authority to improve the application in several ways. These include:
- Changing materials to improve the appearance of the building, for example, including brick in the design
- Changing the colours of the materials we intend to use
- Taking the opportunity to include a replacement for the dilapidated changing block in the park
- Championing the sustainability achievements of the design, which will meet the BREEAM Excellent standard
- Clearly defining the location and extent of secure cycle parking
- Softening the impact on the park of the access road
The revised plans will be submitted soon, and a further 21 day re-consultation period with the public will be held. At that point, we should know when the application will go to a planning committee for a decision to be made, which we hope will be by the end of 2024.
We know many residents are keen to see progress, however all this important work behind the scenes will create an a new hub for sport and healthcare that we can all be proud of.
We'll let you know when the amended plans are available to view, so you can take a look. Comments on the existing planning application will still be taken into account.
Did you know you can visit these impressive Eastney Engine Houses on the edge of Bransbury Park for free? Get up close to some impressive machines – some of which date back to 1887 – and have been restored to their original condition, showcasing the marvels of Victorian engineering.
Both Engine Houses are open on the last Sunday of every month (except August and December), with the Beam Engine House open from 10am to 3pm and the Gas Engine House from 10am to 12.30pm.
