Just getting started

pool

The team have now installed 221 "starter bars" into the base of the pool.

These bars have been installed to help secure the old concrete to the new concrete, which further stabilises the structure.

This is just the first level, there will be more steel reinforcing installed ready for the new concrete.

You can also see there's a big hole in the middle of the pool - this is for brand new drainage equipment.

Playing a blinder

pool edge

A special kind of concrete has been laid on the shallower parts of the pool, this is called 'blinding'.

This method is used to prepare the surface, making the foundations smooth, level and stable so further work can be carried out.

Just a sample

sample panel

The team have had a delivery of a sample panel. These panels will go around the edges of the pool, and the final pool finish will then be attached to the panels.

As you can see from the image on the left the designs are quite specific, so they will accommodate the needs of the pool. The top 'u' shape is a gulley.

The photo on the right shows just one of the 32 underwater lights that will be installed within the pool. This is a test installation - just to ensure the lights fit correctly on to the panel.

Portsmouth tree survey

people by a tree

Portsmouth City Council and Forest Research are collecting views about local trees, woods and forests in Portsmouth.

How much access do you have to green spaces? What sort of trees would you like to see more of? How are the trees in your neighbourhood managed?

The online questionnaire will be combined with the results of a tree survey which took place in June and July. Staff and volunteers counted and labelled the types of trees within 250 sample plots throughout the city, to help identify the diversity of trees in Portsmouth. Thank you to those who volunteered!

The results of both surveys will be used to help identify any risks to the current treescape, to guide future planting, and to estimate the value trees provide towards flood alleviation and air quality in the city.

Anyone aged 16+ living, working or studying in Portsmouth can complete the online survey. It takes 15-20 minutes and is open until the end of September.
