Phase 4 - Eastern Road

It's the final countdown...

north portsea Eastern road section with trees and flowers

The final countdown at phase 4 Eastern Road has begun as we head toward our opening at the end of September (final date to be confirmed).

Once completed, the area will feature:

• Full height concrete sea wall with our special Ecoformliner texture and 138 integrated tidal pools.
• Eight rest areas with new benches, picnic tables and wayfinders.
• A new improved coastal footpath along the new seawall. The ground will be raised along the wall to keep the height at 1.2m and retain sea views for pedestrians and cyclists.
• More than 200 new trees and many areas of new grass and coastal wildflowers.
• Our new ‘bird island’, a roost island for overwintering birds. A naming competition was launched in July 2023 and attracted more than 240 entries - with Cockleshell Island named as the winner.
• Langstone Harbour View car park will be reinstated.

We'll confirm the opening date soon via this bulletin and social media.

Please note that landscaping and tree planting will be undertaken during autumn, after the site opens, so you can expect to see workers out undertaking this important work. This timing will ensure that the plants have the best chance of establishing.

Phase 5 - Ports Creek

Come on down, Knights Brown

Knights Brown Construction Limited has been successful in their bid for the final phase of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme. The construction firm was selected from a shortlist of three expert contractors, all of whom carry extensive industry experience and produced very competitive bids. Knights Brown have worked with Portsmouth City Council prior to this bid, delivering the second and third phase of coastal defences at Milton Common in 2016 and Tipner Lake in 2017 - 2019.

The team is looking forward to a successful collaboration on this last phase of work for the scheme.

Phase 5 - Ports Creek

Ready, set....

map of upcoming work at phase 5

Work starting in September

Phase 5 of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme runs along Ports Creek and is the final phase of the North Portsea Coastal Scheme. Work is set to start here in September 2024.

The design in this phase will be similar to the design of the adjacent Anchorage Park. The focus will be on retaining the natural feel, planting more trees and improving access to the coastal path along this frontage. There are many environmental enhancements and mitigating activities underway to protect and support the many plant and animal species present in the  woodlands and along the moat and creek.

The planning application for this phase of the scheme was approved in January 2024 and work is planned to be carried out from September 2024 until 2026.
