We have been able to secure funding to offer some 'free' places to our childminders, PVI and school nursery practitioners on the level 2 and level 3 Early Years SENCo Accreditation training courses for the next academic year.

There are 20 places for level 3, 10 places for level 2 for childminders and 10 places for level 2 for group-based settings.

These are on a first come, first served basis. In the interest of fairness, please only book one 'free' place per setting. When all of the 'free' places have gone, you can still book a paid for place at the cost of £206 for level 2 or £970 for level 3.

For full details of the courses and to book a place, please click on the links below:

Level 3 course:

Please note that the Traded Services website will prompt you to pay for the level 3 course, but once you have confirmed your booking, we will make an adjustment so that you're not charged if you have secured one of the 20 free places. If at the time of booking, the 20 free places have already been reserved, you will be contacted and asked if you would like to keep your chargeable place, or be refunded.

If you have already booked and paid for a place on any of the above courses, the cost will be refunded. Please ensure that you are able to attend all the sessions for your chosen course. We expect your full commitment to attendance and also to the completion of the accreditation coursework.

On Thursday 13 June, Connie and Layla, two of our Early Years Quality and Sufficiency Officers, hosted a 'Getting to Good' training session at The Play Academy. It was a fantastic occasion, and we are grateful to Emily and Rahma at The Play Academy for opening their doors and generously providing refreshments. A heartfelt thank you to their wonderful team for staying late to speak with delegates and prepare activities. We also had the opportunity to review the latest Ofsted recommendations and tips for preparing for inspection.

The next Getting to Good session will be held in autumn term.

At the recent Early Years SENCo meeting, Parade Community Pre-School shared how they have created a calming sensory space in their outdoor area.

Image

They had noticed that a child who often is heightened and agitated due to their sensory needs was fascinated by the light coming through the leaves on a tree in a quiet corner of their outdoor space. They have gradually enhanced this area as an outdoor sensory corner, all with little or no cost.

Several new resources have been added to the Childcare Works HUB for early years and wraparound providers recently. Please take a moment to have a look. Resources can be used for training or to inspire discussions with your team.

In the last five years, 119 children accidentally drowned in the UK. That’s why child accident prevention trust supported Drowning Prevention Week. You can help to keep children safe by reading and sharing their free fact sheet

Baby bath warning

It’s scary to think that babies and small children are most likely to drown at home in the bath or in the garden. That's why child accident prevention trust's key message is to keep babies in arms’ reach in water. Many parents mistakenly believe bath seats will keep their baby safe, with potentially tragic consequences. Please remind the families you work with that bath seats are not designed as safety devices; the suction pads can fail (despite marketing claims of super strong suction), or babies can slip out.
