Next steps after primary school - Local Offer campaign |
|
|
The Local Offer currently features a next steps after primary school guide which has been developed to support the transition process from primary to secondary for children with SEND.
The page guides parents and carers through different steps to make the transition smoother, includes some top tips from teachers and some anonymous blogs from parents who give accounts of their experiences. Many of the tips include preparing early and doing lots of research, so this page could be useful to parents of children in years 4 and 5, as well as years 6 and 7.
Please share the link with your families and school community.

My Horror Story workshops opportunity |
|
|
Trash Arts Ltd and Open Ya Mouth CIC host a series of workshops called My Horror Story, funded by the Arts Council and which last year took place at Park Community School. The workshops help develop confidence and public speaking through a creative and fun outlet. Over eight weeks participants will develop their own horror story, using their own fears and phobias as inspiration.
When participants are ready, they film performances of the story and additional intercuts with props. These stories are then presented for the participants and their families at a showcase event. You can watch last year's video here.
The team are preparing to apply for more workshops for October and are looking for two schools to be part of this and be included in their Arts Council application form.
If you are interested in taking part, please email Sam Bell at trashartsportsmouth@gmail.com.

Changemaker Moments: Election Special |
|
|
With the recent announcement of the General Election happening on Thursday 4 July 2024, Unloc are putting on an event that gives young people the opportunity to connect with local political candidates to have their voice heard!
They are running a different kind of event series to bring young people aged 13-19 and local General Election candidates together to network and discuss policies related to young people. They want to give young people the opportunity to ask candidates questions in a setting where they will get detailed answers.
These are not hustings. In small groups, young people will get 10-15 minutes with each of the candidates in the local constituency (or their chosen representatives) for a more genuine experience for both young people and the candidates.
To attend, young people need to live, work, or go to school/college/university in either Portsmouth North or Portsmouth South.
Date: Monday 24 June 2024, 4.30pm – 6pm Location: Changemaker Studios – Portsmouth Guildhall, Guildhall Square
There are only a limited number of spaces which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
