This year's annual citywide transition meeting is taking place next Wednesday, 19 June from 4.00pm until 6.00pm at New Horizons Primary School, Portchester Road, PO2 7JB.

This is our annual opportunity for pre-school practitioners (including childminders) and year R teachers to come together to exchange information about children who are transferring to school. Please come with parental permission to share information about the children with their receiving schools.

Did you know nappy sacks can kill small babies? They naturally grasp things and pull them to their mouths, but then find it difficult to let go. Flimsy nappy sacks can easily cling to a baby’s face as they breathe in and cause suffocation or choking. Please help get the message out to parents.

What can you do?

Learn more about the dangers. Visit Child Accident Prevention Trust's nappy sacks page to learn more about the risks and how to keep babies safe.

Put up a poster. Display their brand-new nappy sacks poster which highlights the dangers. You can use it to start a quick conversation with parents who may be completely unaware of the danger.

Share their top tips. Print off their Breathe Easy fact sheet with tips on nappy sacks and other threats to breathing.

Advice in translation. Use their translated fact sheet for parents who speak Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Polish, Arabic or Welsh.

The first free childminder story time session will be taking place on Friday 28 June from 10.00am - 11.00am at Southsea library, Palmerston Road. This pirate themed story time will include singing and craft - minded children are welcome. Hosted by Danielle Gilkes. More sessions will follow across the city.

City of Portsmouth College is hosting their next Early Years Employer Advisory Board meeting on Monday 1 July from 12.00pm until 1.30pm at their Highbury College site. Join in with the conversation regarding the childcare qualifications and apprenticeships. Lunch is included.
